You also get the same issue with trans men. We a had a local case where a trans man was convicted of a crime, and the local authorities decided to send him to a male prison, respecting his self-identification. He proceeded to immediatly challenge this through the courts for obvious reasons.

In this situation, it’s impossible to escape the drawbacks of your biology so long as prisons assume a dichotomy. And the vast majority of the population considers any criminal to be subhuman anyway, so asking them to acommodate a sub-percentage of what is already a tiny 0.1% of the population is impossible. They would sooner vote to just execute them to save themselves the hassle and expense.

Both the Omarchy shilling and these attempts at smearing a lot of people with the least charitable interpretation possible of their words and actions feel incredibly artificial, so I’m going to do what is best for me and ignore both.

In the Chinese Room scenario, cards with Chinese written on them are inserted into a box.

Inside there is a man who doesn’t understand Chinese but has a lookup list of which symbols to write as a response to every possible sentence you can write on the inserted card.

For anyone observing from outside the box it looks as if whatever is in the box is fluent in Chinese and can hold a conversation. But the man inside does not understand anything about Chinese.

This is used as an analogy to explain that machines, very much like the man in the box, do not actually understand the data they are fed, nor the data they output, no matter how human the response might seem.

It was an argument against the Turing test, which is about whether machines showing behaviour indistinguishable from a human is a sign that they can think.

The Chinese Room argument is that they must also show understanding of the data itself, rather than just human-like responses, to say that they think.

The problem is that they see people hating the torment nexus and then they assume it must be because they didn’t market it correctly.

The more I think about it the less I see them as victims, and more as irresponsible with important data.

It’s hard to feel sorry for these non profits even if it the data loss is a tragedy. It’s been years of people screaming that this kind of shit could happen. That not accepting the pain of early adoption of open source software would lead to the extreme pain of being locked out arbitrarily.

In my experience even one of the platforms with moronic developers eventually fixed their Firefox support. I dunno if the surge in Linux users had anything to do with it or not, or if it was because I would browser there, make my payments fail then switch to the Falkon browser every single time.

This only applies when you are talking about comparable things (E.g. two pieces of for-profit software that do the same thing). If they don’t seem to be the same thing, then you actually have to explain how would it happen if you want to be taken seriously.

The actually funny part is that they can’t. Most of the bloatware is not available on Linux because it doesn’t support it.

SteamOS is not meant to be used on normal desktop/laptops. You’re making things harder for yourself.

Having deleted my account recently I’m not so sure anymore. Before I left, a lot of comments lacked coherence, and many were in the wrong language. I think the bots are finally outnumbering the real users for specific communities.

It’s actually a bit infuriating after a decade of tech savvy people screaming that any data given to these corporations was eventually going to be used for something they wouldn’t like. This isn’t some unforseen consequence.
