Takes out a family imperial megaship. Judge: suspended license and 120 days community service.
As a young naval officer, I was taught that if I was unable to do my job while drunk, I was unable to do my job.

I’ve played Elite Dangerous and X3/X4 drunk many times. It was fun.
Same.
And expensive.
My new pc mouse pointer. Installed 3 new taskbars, and my frame rate is now 2 between popups
I hope this is AI, because that turbolaser configuration is shyte. A whopping three batteries can fire at the rear, and the broadside arrays have like <45 degree arcs of fire with all the overlapping emplacements.
My junior high scribbles were more thought out.

Is this AI? I don’t recognize this type of star destroyer. It doesn’t have a bridge so that rules out the full-sized imperial-class or the smaller victory-class. The Reaurgent-class doesn’t have a bridge, but the shape doesn’t look right…
Imagine? Bish im driving it right meow and i am not sober

Man, I disliked that movie, but damn this looked good.
The movie had some good ideas, but not good ideas for the second part of a trilogy.
I think it was the first time I audibly gasped in a theater. The color of the screen and thus the room going almost completely dark, then, in an instant, being flooded with the pale light of that collision coupled with the small details of the rubble made for one of the prettiest theater experiences I’ve ever had.
Granted, I don’t go to the theater much. But I’ve seen all of the star wars movies from Revenge of the Sith in theaters on release, and this way by far the one that got the most emotions out of me from sheer color work and composition.
spoiler
or, at least, good emotions…
fuck lining up an ancient dagger with a 50-year old piece of wreckage, btw
It was very beautiful scene composition hiding a terrible story.
Not counting the character assassination of Luke or Finn having a stalker the ideas were fine because it was just the Empire Strikes Back in with a slight reverse in the order of events, having the base assault on the rebels happening in a desert at the end, starting with Rey having her mentor moment, and then ending with the duel with the Emperor’s right hand.
I mean, you would most definitely need an entire crew to pilot a spacecraft of that size, so it really wouldn’t be drunk driving unless you all were hammered. In which case, probably wouldn’t get very far before some sub-system shorted out in a massive way
If the impaired person is high rank enough and nobody questions them, it’s enough for one person to be impaired for the whole ship to go off course.
They have gravity generators and inertia dampeners. There’s a whole lot of space in space. Go crazy.
The only thing dramatic about flying in a Sci-Fi space ship is the music and camera angles.
I love the space battles in the early Expanse books. They are essentially
There’s a ship visible several thousand kilometers away…
Shit, they’ve armed weapons
Firing countermeasures
They will pass in 30 seconds at an appreciable fraction of C
BRAAAAAAAAP
battle over
Ship-to-ship combat is like that in the Lost Fleet series by Jack Campbell. Hours or days of waiting and preparing, trying to get in the enemy’s head to guess what they’ll do, and coordinating the fire and last minute acceleration/maneuvers of your fleet, then the automatic programs carry out those orders and you see who died. It’s really well done.
I love hard scifi. Gonna check this out. If you guys want something in return; I think the children of time series is cool for actually handling the vast distances of travel. >!(I don’t think the expanse for all its glory counts on this front because it’s just explained with “aliens”)!<
There’s a sequence in a Larry Niven book where a ship sees some missiles inbound from across a solar system. In order to avoid them, they have to spend several hours at high-G thrust, nearly killing a bunch of the crew. It’s a long, slow chapter of high tension, it obeys the laws of physics, and it’s excellent.
I’m a fan and collector, but that doesn’t sound familiar from the portion of my collection that I’ve read through. Do you recall anything else?
I’m pretty sure it’s either The Mote in God’s Eye or The Gripping Hand.
Edit: Checked, and it’s most of the last couple of chapters of The Gripping Hand. I fudged some of the details from not having read it in a long time, but the basics are there; spaceships jockeying for strategic advantage across an entire solar system, balancing fuel and orbits, and crews doing their best to withstand painful acceleration.
I have 56 books of his (a few are duplicates in other editions), including those two. I read Mote ages ago, bit don’t remember it. Reordering my TBR pile!
PDCs engaged!
A 2kg tungsten projectile out a chain gun, with no gravity or atmosphere, is just madness. One of my favorite parts is when they evacuate the Rocinante’s atmosphere before going into battle. They don’t explain with some bullshit exposition, but one would hope it’s obvious after they get hit with PDC rounds.
What a wild user name
It’s only a problem with star wars-logic aseroid fields
“I’ll try spinning, that’s a – hurk, nope, big mistake!”
