“Ants are not meant to serve grasshoppers. I’ve seen these ants do great things! And year after year, they manage to pick enough food for themselves, and you! So who’s the weaker species? Ants don’t serve grasshoppers! We’re a lot stronger than you say we are. And you know it… don’t you?”

“A Bug’s Land” (stylized “a bug’s land”) was an area of Disney California Adventure themed after Pixar’s 1998 film A Bug’s Life. The land consisted of Flik’s Fun Fair, which opened on October 7, 2002, and was set in a representation of the film’s fictional universe with four rides targeted towards young children; Flik’s Flyers, Francis’ Ladybug Boogie, Tuck and Roll’s Drive 'Em Buggies, and Heimlich’s Chew Chew Train. The area also included a water play area targeted towards young children. An outside area contained the It’s Tough to Be a Bug! theater, which was an original area of the park when it opened on February 8, 2001. The area closed on September 4, 2018 to make way for Avengers Campus.

they had A Bugs Life themed attractions at disney parks for almost 20 years, this weird conspiratorial crap is lingering in THEY dont want you to know! crao, hollywood movies arent going to save you.

The movie ends with the big bad grasshopper getting eaten by a bird, something totally out of the hands of the ants.

if you sincerely think A Bugs Life didnt have it’s cultural moment you werent conscious in 1998.

Yeah - and the movie is available for streaming on Disney+. You can still buy new DVDs and Blu-Rays. They are still selling merchandising for it. The most recent apperance of those characters was in a Disney videogame in 2024. This is a 28 year old movie that never got the cult status like toy story or lion king and that is exactly the thing you would expect.

Unfortunately, the conspiratorial crap is how you get dumb people in a political movement. It’s easier to see individuals as evil than a system putting the wrong people in power.

Yeah seriously. A Bugs Life is generally considered one of the big Pixar classics. It was huge and it’s societal lasting was decades.

        Yes.

(I only saw Antz but not A Bug’s Life, and just sort of assumed Antz had the more subversive social message because it wasn’t Disney.)

Definitely. The collective workers rise up against the militaristic ruling class, after, of course, those rulers attempt to murder them all for their ‘glorious future’. Unfortunately, Antz and A Bug’s Life also share something else in common. Both star sex pests in the leading role.

They came out close together and both featured ants as main protagonists. A Bug’s Life is the one pictured.

Antz was the “copycat” movie that was rushed out to beat A Bug’s Life into the theaters. Back when animation studios even bothered with that shit.

It’s also possible they were aware of both individual titles, and conflated them purposefully to elicit the response it got. Given the OCs responses to some of the comments, I’m inclined to lean into this explanation.

Which is also fascinating in its own right.

I meant more so that learning about social issues from corporate children’s entertainment might not be the highest-fidelity way to do that, and that combining the two names into one “story” means that it’s like the lessons learned from “Disney-PIxar’s Antz’ Life” might be jumbled a bit.

Everyone remembers this movie for the ‘workers rise up’.

I rememeber it for the shitty cliche ‘liar revealed’ story. I remember it for the nasty, mean spirited ‘humour’.

I remember it for the transphobic ‘joke’ that they just loved to use in all the trailers. (“Yikes! She’s a guy!”)

I remember this movie for starring a fucking pedophile.

This movie is ass and deserves to be forgotten.

Well before those accusations came out. At least take solace in the fact he played the bad guy, thus art imitating foreshadowing life again.

(Assuming you’re referring to Kevin Spacey.)
