Videos@lemmy.world•How Californians Reacted to New Drunk Driving Laws in 1980s
41·2 years agoPeople have been using the same arguments for years. I remember watching a similar video from the BBC of the UK bringing in drunk driving laws in the 60s and it was the same stuff “How can the government dictate how much I can drink and still drive?!”
I really wonder what these people think now of being on the wrong side of history? My guess is they’re either MAGA people now or they’ve come around and think they were never really opposed to this.

Canada@lemmy.ca•4 million Canadians have a criminal record. Companies not hiring them are missing out, say advocates
61·2 years agoAbsolutely, there’s a reason people become career criminals. If we remove any opportunities to make money legally people will turn back to criminal ways to make money.

Technology@beehaw.org•Electric scooter company Bird files for bankruptcy
4·2 years agoThe scooters are really popular in our city. Currently we have 2 companies operating: Bird and Neuron. The positives have definitely outweighed the negatives. Hope they can keep going.
Here in western Canada where it’s traditionally winter by this point we’ve had a very brown and mild November and early December. On the one hand I do miss these lovely landscapes, on the other I’m appreciating everything not being dirty after the melt.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•In the store, I sometimes encounter containers (e.g., beer, water, shampoo) with a volume of 618ml. Why exactly this number?
8·2 years agoPossibly started with a different volume then through shrinkflation ended up at 618 mL
I’m confused it says it’s a micro blogging platform. Is that just a ruse?
Also I’m curious about Discord, when people say they hang out there, do they just find a channel they like and keep up with the chat all day?
I think so. I’m in a few discords, but don’t really keep up with it. However, people seem to be active in them.

I list them on Kijiji (a Canadian local marketplace website). You typically have to wait a while and relist, but they eventually sell.

6·2 years agoHow long would land have to be abandoned before it would have the same characteristics as current undisturbed land?

People say it in person a lot. Another factor might be that some people view it coming across as either non genuine or passive aggressive in written form.
