Lemmy Shitpost@lemmy.world•Too bad we can't have good public transportation
342·8 months agoThis is because public transportation is socialism and we can’t have tax dollars going to that pretext for communism. Capitalism is far superior which is why we are instead spending over $150 billion on deporting immigrants, which will help promote a free and open capitalist market.

News@lemmy.world•U.S. sent 238 migrants to Salvadoran mega-prison; documents indicate most have no apparent criminal records
10·1 year agoI feel like not enough people are outraged about spending $6 million taxpayer dollars to El Salvador for these “prisoners” either. Where is the government efficiency?

21·1 year agoI need to switch to OPN. Was on pfSense Plus until they csncelled the free licenses so I finally “downgraded” to pfSense CE and now I’m finding it hasn’t been updated in 2+ years and I’m really missing having DHCP hostnames being added to local DNS automatically.

A sleep scientist/professor named Matt Walker has a podcast about, you guessed it, sleep. He talks about this and how it’s very unfair to people who are biologically programmed to get tired later.
He goes on to describe scientific proof of the effect this has on their sleep and the impact to their health. It’s sad really, but his hope is to raise awareness and acceptance of the night owl’s schedule.

Lemmy Shitpost@lemmy.world•Hello Lemmings, why is there a a why is Lemmy left/communist/nerd/old people question in my feed every other day ? /S

Technology@lemmy.world•Fed’s new instant payment system could be trouble for PayPal, VenmoEnglish
41·3 years agoFor those that don’t know in the US even if you use a third party system the final settlement of the money still has to go through the Fed and it’s usually as either a Wire or an ACH transaction. ACH is slow and batch processes which can be daily. Wire can be quicker but more expensive. Some banks give you access to funds sooner but it’s still not settled until that NACHA batch file goes through the Fed.
Anyway there are two instant payment systems coming to the US: RTP (by the Automated Clearing House (ACH)) and FedNow.
Outside the US they’ve already had other instant payment systems.

2·3 years agoI went with a big named HVAC supplier in the area and got a Mitsubishi. It’s a work horse but I don’t have all the cool tech features the newer Mr Cool units do.
They also charged a ton, even after I negotiating a much lower cost. I should have just dropped the deal all together but they did do a good job.
I started with Harbor Freight because I couldn’t decide on a battery system at the time and just needed a cheapo drill for a project.
Once it died, Milwaukee was coming out and had brushless motors for good prices. I jumped on board and never looked back.
