Lol are you one of those kids from The Kid’s Guide to the Internet?
Yes, it’s absolutely cutting edge CGI. Every one of those movies pushed CGI technology so much further.
I had the pleasure of watching a talk by the CGI team at an animators convention when the second movie came out and it’s absolutely insane how much work goes into every tiny detail. The first thing they did for example, was to animate a water drop as physically correct as possible. And then they build up from there. They also filmed hours of reference material.
Remember the scene in the second movie where they burn down the huts? They build one of those huts for real, live sized (remember the Navii are bigger than humans) and hand weaved. And then they burned it down. Just to see how fire interacts with that material.
The Avatar movies are nothing special story wise, but from a CGI point of view, they have always been groundbreaking.
Game of Thrones didn’t really have unnecessary sex scene. A big part of that show was about sex and how it influences people.
Saying Game of Thrones has unnecessary sex scenes is kind of like saying a Marvel movie has unnecessary super hero fight scenes.

61·29 days agoStart getting organized and take this to the street. Start protesting peacefully but disruptively and then (and this is the uncomfortable part) when they meet you with violence, answer with violence.
Can I ask you when you were born? Because I remember using the paper strips when I was really young and then at some point they dissapeared and got replaced by those plastic rings. I was born in 94.

2·1 month agoThat was exactly my experience giving Linux a try for the first time. I gave up but then decided to give it another try with Linux Mint. I’ve been using it for over a year now and I haven’t looked back. There is a small amount of software that I just can’t get to work on Linux so I have dual boot set up, but I found myself booting into windows fewer and fewer times. And now I’m at a point where I actually dread booting into windows. I’t just doesn’t feel like it’s my machine anymore when it’s running windows.
Long story short, give it time, try a few distros and you will eventually get used to it, at which point you will not want to go back to windows.
I remember me as a child recording my own radio shows, with me doing all the announcements, reading articles from magazines or just talking nonsense and then recording music from the radio for the music in between. Good times.
What the fuck that’s actually a real thing.
…I love it

51·2 months agoThis right here. People who complain about this obviously don’t know how concept artists work. At this stage in the process, AI isn’t replacing artists, it’s mostly replacing shutterstock and Pinterest.
One of the most important numbers? I’d argue the most important number in computing is either 1 or 0…

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•Most people's earliest memories are at around 3 or 4 years of age, which correlates with the age kids start asking "why" for everything. Kids start asking why when they become self-aware.English
21·7 months agoIt’s called “Theory of Mind”. It’s basically the concept of understanding that other people know things that you don’t and it starts when children are around the age of three. VSauce talked about it in one of is videos. It’s incredibly interesting: https://youtu.be/evQsOFQju08?t=5m50s
