  • You know what? Neoliberal democracy is dead, but there’s still a chance for liberal democratic values to rise again. I’ve been seeing some real anger from the libs since Petti. Real fucking hardcore anger from people who, before, I’d dismissed as asleep, willing to hide instead of fight.

It’s like seeing an accountant dad lose his shit and pick up a big old tree branch, shouting in rage, when some asshole punches his kid. I hope it’s not theater, and I hope it does not get catharsis from meaningless wins like Bovino.

The Democrat leadership is lost, but with enough anger, real liberal believers could just go in and hollow it out and wear the old party like a skin suit.

  • Excuse me, we’re Chinese trolls, thanks very much; we are unhealthily obsessed with China because it’s incredibly economically successful, it’s the last hope of actual oldschool dictatorship of the worker socialism, and it’s barely avoided being controlled by the market.

It’s incredibly centralised, it’s authoritarian, yes, but it’s also building all the solar panels and executing billionaires when they get too powerful and making the imperial nations look like chumps, so you should forgive us for our infatuation.

My lack of action and lack of building local organisation? Guilty. I’m trying to correct this. China is not the model for the West, and even the Chinese govt says that, so as a true Chinahead I do not call for Chad Xi to come save us, that is missing the fucking point. We must grow our own socialist organisations to bypass the state, and anarchists and syndicalists might be the best idea for the West, with our individualism and love of freedom.

  • Mostly correct. One note: the experts have been saying it’s worse than the IPCC (or any government) says it is since the 90s. The experts, in universities and legit research institutions all around the world, have long known this is going to be a shit show, and they have already accepted that we did not do what was needed to avoid impacts on the world that have a good chance to end human civilisation and kill billions of people. It’s not a slam dunk, btw, there are still ways to get away with, say, only hundreds of millions dead from starvation, war, disease, heatstroke, etc.

But no expert who has been paying attention thinks we’re getting out of this without at least that. I know a few of them, they’ve actually done their grieving already because they know we didn’t stop it when we could, and they know what’s coming.

  • It seems like a way to help old fucks like me - who have never used anything but Windows and hate anything new and still bitch about the windows key - learn how to use Linux without throwing up our hands and going back to Windows 11. I am planning to use Mint, and Cinnamon, when I nuke my desktop’s Windows installation, because I’m just too goddamn tired to learn too many new things at a time and I liked Windows 98.

Is Cinnamon still a good idea for me, even though it does not sound like a good idea for people still able to form new neuronal connections?
