Games@lemmy.world•Phoenix Labs (creators of Dauntless and Fae Farm) just laid off most of their dev teamEnglish
4·1 year agoIt’s hard but not impossible. You’ll make less money but have much more stability.
After multiple layoffs I started freelancing. The autonomy and multiple streams of income has been great for my mental health.

17·1 year agoYou can blame crypto bros but the original owners sold out. Once a studio has been swallowed up by a conglomerate it is only a matter of time before it turns to shit.
The owners might have had no choice though because they took a ton of venture capital funding.
I’ve realized that it’s best to just avoid any company that takes VC because they will inevitably fuck everyone over.

Linux Gaming@lemmy.world•Intel Arc B570 Graphics Performance On Linux ReviewEnglish
1·1 year agoIt’s much slower on Linux vs Windows gaming for everything but OpenGL
https://www.phoronix.com/review/intel-arc-b580-windows-linux
I’ve also seen several reports of game crashes and major artifacts. AMD cards are way better on Linux.

Linux Gaming@lemmy.world•Intel Arc B570 Graphics Performance On Linux ReviewEnglish
2·1 year agoIt seems to have a lot of issues on Linux though. AMD is still the king on Linux if you want open source drivers and a decent GPU.

1·1 year agoIts Linux performance leaves a lot to be desired… not even close to the 4060 on Linux

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•How can I determine how much to contribute to charity to reduce US federal taxes?
32·1 year agoTax write offs don’t really work the way people think they do. You reduce your taxable income by the amount you donate but you don’t pay 100% of your taxable income to the government.
So charity is like an inverted tax where you lose 80% of your money instead of the 20% you pay to the government.
Rich people make can make it work sometimes by donating assets that have an inflated value and otherwise don’t translate well to “income”.
Businesses operate very differently because they’re taxed on profits not income. So when you hear about businesses not paying taxes it is because they’ve cooked the books to have less “profit”.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What side hustles have you personally seen work pretty well?
8·1 year agoThe only one I’ve heard of working really well was 3D printing copyrighted material that is usually way overpriced. Board game pieces, figurines, etc.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Why does the government of the USA stand by the country of Israel?
44·2 years agoStrangers on the internet are not qualified to answer deeply complex questions like this despite what they might think.
Foreign affairs is something that people dedicate their lives to studying and understanding. I seriously doubt those experts are here answering this question.
Do you notice how all of the answers you’ve received are inconsistent with each other?

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Why does the government of the USA stand by the country of Israel?
922·2 years agoI’m sorry but this is actually a stupid question. Not only can nobody here answer it but it’s obviously flame bait.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•When investing your money, what is considered a good rate of return?
25·2 years agoIt depends on the risk involved. The US stock market has returned around 7% annually averaged over a very long period of time. That’s considered the benchmark for investments with significant risk.
The price seems ok. There’s more to consider than price though. Do people dislike them because of the quality of their work?
You forgot to mention the Roman Empire

Today I Learned@lemmy.world•TIL personal credit scores only started in 1989English
453·2 years agoCredit scores didn’t exist but credit bureaus date back to the mid 1800s in the USA. Also, as others have mentioned creditors would do their due diligence and try to assert that you would be able to pay back your loans by doing many of the same things they do now.
This really isn’t some new, crazy concept like you’re making it out to be. The score has only simplified the process.

Today I Learned@lemmy.world•TIL personal credit scores only started in 1989English
32·2 years agouh… that’s exactly how it worked. The Wikipedia page you linked mentions credit bureaus. If you go to that page you can see they were established in the USA by the mid 1800s. Yes, it was all done on paper. That’s how the world used to work.

Linux@lemmy.ml•Linux Developers To Meet Again To Work On HDR, Color Management & VRR
1·2 years agoThanks for the tip. I might have to try that. It was working mostly fine one day (no VRR) and then it was completely broken the next. :(

Linux@lemmy.ml•Linux Developers To Meet Again To Work On HDR, Color Management & VRR
292·2 years agoVRR isn’t supported by default by most distros. Just because it works with your setup doesn’t mean it works for others.
Also, this event seems to be primarily focused on AMD/Mesa support.

There are outliers but it’s the simple truth. Consistent exercise makes the vast majority of people feel better in almost every way. Humans aren’t built for a sedentary lifestyle.
If you’re hating exercise you should reevaluate your approach. There are tons of ways to make it fun.
If you’re getting chronic pain after exercise you should reevaluate your approach. It’s easy to injure yourself if you’re doing it wrong.
