6·2 months agoWe already have drugs that stop women from getting pregnant from direct nuts, let alone stray ones. I’m not saying that female astronauts should go on birth control to let the boys blast rope, but this cannot be the actual reason.

Games@lemmy.world•Game franchises you like, but wish were another genre of video game?English
1·2 months agoWarhammer 40k comes in all flavors! You can try shooters like Boltgun (boomer shooter FPS), Space Marine (TPS with some hack and slash) and Space Hulk: Deathwing (FPS), among others.
For tactical stuff, there’s Battlefleet Gothic: Armada (RTT with space ships) Mechanicus (turn-based tactics) and Dawn of War (the last one was meh).
Fun stuff like Shootas, Blood and Teef (platformer) and Rogue Trader (RPG) are also out there. And lots of these are getting sequels pretty damn soon!

World News@lemmy.world•JD Vance arrives in Hungary to back Orbán's re-election bidEnglish
3·3 months agoIt wasn’t Vance, it was Orban. Orban’s been desperate for Trump’s attention and support because in his mind, Trump is doing the same thing he is in a much larger, more powerful country. He’s trying to show his base he has a strong ally abroad.
It’s ridiculous though. Orban’s campaign is all about opposing war (meaning Ukraine should capitulate) because it’s wrecking the economy. But his “ally” attacks Iran causing another crisis and sends his peon most Hungarians don’t even know or care about. I just really hope people don’t fall for this bullshit this time around.
There’s a scene in Space Force where a flight controller can’t do something crucial because of a forced Windows update. I remember thinking “this is such a silly, cheap gag, there’s no way a space organization would use Microsoft”.
Well. I stand corrected.

Emotions convey messages about yourself, but we constantly manage them due to societal norms, priorities and other stuff. Like a colleague screws you over and you want to yell at him but you suppress the feeling because you don’t want to get into trouble. Or you mess something up and someone says “don’t feel guilty, you couldn’t have prevented this”.
After a while, you start to internalize this stuff. Whenever you get angry, you push it down because “it’s not worth it”, whenever you feel guilty, you start rationalizing it. But the real reason you’re feeling these emotions never gets addressed because you start managing them before identifying the root causes. So they build up and lead to all kinds of nasty things.
Validation is accepting that you’re feeling an emotion instead of immediately trying to deal with it. It’s useful because then you can start asking yourself questions. What exactly am I feeling? What does it feel like? Why am I feeling it?
Maybe you want to lash out at your coworker because he betrayed your trust and now you feel hurt. That’s a perfectly reasonable response - shit, maybe if the circumstances were different, you’d be expected to act aggressively towards him. And your guilt over your mistake? Maybe you’re afraid that people will not like you if you make mistakes? Now this is interesting because people make mistakes all the time and are still liked. Why do you feel this way?
There are many techniques to help with all this. But it takes quite a bit of work (especially for neurodivergent folks).
TL;DR: Validating your own feelings helps you indentify you deeper thoughts. It takes effort because you’re taught to keep a lid on it.
