Umm… no they don’t? You need a password to unlock it after restarting it but you absolutely can turn the phone off without a password. I’m on my 3rd Samsung device and have never entered a password to shut any of them off.

Technology@beehaw.org•NYC Mayor Announces New NYPD RoboCop That Needs a Cop to Guard It
9·3 years agoOh man. My old Walgreens had these and I begged the manager at my new store not to let them put them in. They still haven’t made their way over yet, maybe the company realized how absolutely idiotic they are.
The only reason they wanted them is because when someone wasn’t standing directly in front of them they would play full screen ads for whatever was (supposed to be) inside.

0·3 years agoMan that’s really disappointing to see. I literally background watch mythbusters every night as I’m going to bed and I’ve loved the show since I was a kid. Hope the remainder of the crew continues to maintain their integrity.
Are people really trying to make blacklist and whitelist a race thing? Good Lord.
Are we going to start referring to cables as having female-identifying ends and male-identifying ends? Are USB-C cables non-binary?

It doesn’t matter that you tried to censor it. Bad words are a strict no no here and don’t you forget it. The Internet is no home to your obscenities.

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•People will forget what the covid signs looked like
9·3 years agoIndividual websites come and go, yes, but COVID literally dominated every and all aspects of everyday life for the better part of 2020. It’s like saying that everyone is gonna forget that WWII happened because most of the newspapers from the time have stopped running.

Mildly Infuriating@lemmy.world•Updated Edge and it now seems to put a frame with rounded corners around every website
1·3 years agoY’know, that’s a fair point. I don’t necessarily agree, I’m not that in tune with most websites’ designs, but for someone who actively works on them I can see how you might look at things a little differently.

1·3 years agoAre you able to show us an example of what you’re talking about? I genuinely cannot picture a situation where this would be remotely as bad as some of y’all are making it out to be, how do you design a website in such a way that very slightly chamfered edges completely ruins the look?

I had so many issues with my (less than legitimate) windows install kept nuking itself and the drive it was on, I bought a cheap small SSD that has literally nothing but windows on it so whenever it goes fucky I just wipe and reinstall. It’s a total time of like an hour going from “shits fucked” to “everything is pretty much how it was before”.
