linuxmemes@lemmy.world•you don't need more 4GB of RAM
2·2 years agoYou have a lot of ram, linux will try to use most of it, it’s a normal thing. There’s a huge difference from using a large amount of ram when available to NEEDING that amount to run.Try installing both OSes on a machine with 4gb, and see the difference between them. One will be usable, while the other will have a poor performance. You can even push it harder with a 1gb machine. Linux will provide a system with basic functionality, while windows will be unusable.

Technology@lemmy.world•Stack Overflow bans users en masse for rebelling against OpenAI partnership — users banned for deleting answers to prevent them being used to train ChatGPTEnglish
9·2 years agoIs there an actual way to stop it? I don’t think so. At least, moving to the fediverse would stop any particular corporation from having the monopoly of it, prevent reddit-like abuse of power, would give users more power, among a few other things.

9·2 years agothey can perhaps create instances, pay malicious users, try some embrace, extend, extinguish approach or something, but they can’t manipulate the code running on the instances we use, so they can’t have direct power over it. Or am I missing something? I’m new to the fediverse.

1·2 years agoCan’t some instances make some sort of agreement and have a whitelist of instances to not block? People would need to register to add their instances to the list, and some common measures would be applied to restrict someone from registering several instances at once, and banning people who misuse the system.
That wouldn’t solve the problem, but perhaps would make things more manageable.

121·2 years agoThere’s one advantage on the fediverse. We don’t have the corporations like reddit manipulating our feeds, censoring what they dislike, and promoting shit. This alone makes using the fediverse worth for me.
When it comes to problems involving the users themselves, things aren’t that different, and we don’t have much to do.

I feel the same. I prefer less crowded places, but I believe it would be better for us all if people left any kind of corporate or attention draining social media.
