  • Ok. I’ll throw myself on my sword and give a different take than what most people are.

I wasnt into reaction videos aka analysis vidoes at all until Kpop Demon Hunters came out. I really like this movie. I’ve even watched it several times, including once at the theater, which is very unusual for me.

I have a fairly isolated life. Not many friends and the few I do have I only see occasionally. So I don’t have anyone I can gush about this movie to let alone rewatch it with or introduce it to.

Putting on a reaction video while walking the dogs lets me listen to someone else enjoying discovering the movie for the first time. Obviously I can’t participate, but I’ve still shared their joy.

An alternate one is singers analyzing music videos. I watched someone going nut over a Beatbox video of Beatpella House, then saw their reaction video of VoicePlay covering Nothing Else Matters. Mindblowing rendition! I would never have found this without scrolling through their other videos. Sometimes being open to new things pays off.

  • 10mm wrenches. Saw a deal online years ago for 20 wrenches for like 20 bucks. I was still doing field work at the the time so 10 and 11 mm were common purchases for me. They didn’t break, so there was no need for an expensive warranty. They just got misplaced, usually by a trainee who didnt have their own tools.

It was frustrating because buy even one cheap wrench was $10, but a kit of 8 or 10 wrenches could be bought on sale for $20. I have a few of those kits too, and a few socket kits. I have yet to use most of the pieces in 20 years. I mostlt just needed the 10, 11, and 13mm.

A 20 pack of 10mm for cheap? I couldn’t pass that up. Then I stopped working field. Now I have a shed full of tools that I might never use again. Nothing wrong with them except some old batteries maybe. I refuse to get rid of them in case I have to back to field work. But it makes me look like a hoarder.

Feel free to make a community, but many communities on that other site got their start on the larger ask sub.

There are a few asklemmy communities that have subscribers already. Start building an audience by posting fun questions there first to see what kind of engagement you get.

but they have to prove their need

No. They should have to prove their competency. Need is too easy to dispute. We dont get to dictate why someone needs a gun any more than why they need a car. If they want one, have the means, and demonstrate compliance with safety guidelines, then they shouldn’t be denied. Canada handles this fairly well.

School shootings demonstrate why some people should absolutely be denied access to guns.

The current US political situation demonstrates why more people should arm themselves.
