Android@lemmy.world•Is Rooting still as essential as it used to be?English
2·3 years agoHuh, this sounds nice, although I don’t quite understand how to implement it to my scenario, my carrier does not allow hotspot either, that’s why your comment intrigued me, but I am not sure how to achieve this, even when I get the big picture 😅

3·3 years agoFor me yes, I can tweak my system at my liking, root breaking things is not something that has ever happened to me, all my bank app works without issues and I can’t remember the last time they didn’t.
I run Paranoid Android rooted along with tons of apps that require root acces such as Swift Backup, Adaway, App Manager, BBS, FKM, KonaBess, Pixelifly for Google Photos, Saver Tuner, Revanced, SD Maid, Termux, X-Plore etc.
And some modules like Zygisk, Detach, Pixel Launcher Extended
I know some of those apps doesn’t require root specifically (can work with adb) but for me is just easier to just put Magisk and call it a day.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What is your favorite operating system and what do you like about it?English
2·3 years agoWell, for starters do you have a mac?
I wouldn’t attempt to try hackintosh or something like that in a non Apple product, not if you don’t like thinkering at least.
Obviously macOS works better with Apple products, performance and battery wise (for example in models where you can install Windows it sucks big time battery performance wise, and the hardware doesn’t help either).
What I like about my mac is that it is like having the best of Windows and Linux merged, you got a nice interface with good program support and also scratches the Linux itch with its terminal, and you can also install homebrew from there, very similar as you’d do from any Linux distro (I manage completely my Synology NAS from there with SSH for example, something that was not always possible in Windows natively).
The keyboard commands are nice as well.
Maybe I just feel that way because my OS journey went from Windows > Linux > macOS.
By no means it is a perfect OS, It sucks that it is not as customizable as the other two, also its window management sucks balls without the proper programs (apps/programs really improve the experience overall).
Honestly I don’t think I can cover all the good and bad things about this OS, or any other, if you are interested you can give a quick glance in any Apple store, but that is just the tip of the iceberg obviously.

Out of the loop@lemmy.world•Why is everyone talking about Sync? How is it better than other apps for Lemmy like Connect and Jerboa?English
3·3 years agoThe animations are smooth, only Summit can compare (indeed I think it is better as of now).
The app lasts longer in the multitask/app switcher and it almost always remembers your place on the feed.
You have peek to see posts, and those are one of the top features that come to my mind that not all the other apps have, but I know some do, like Voyager holds on the background a bit longer than other apps as well, and I am pretty sure some have peek to see as well.
At the end of the day nothing is wrong with one of another, the good thing is that we get options.

8·3 years agoCall me crazy, but I don’t see people rocking laptops from 2008 until this date, I have seen people using Macs from that day using recent macOS versions (with OCLP) and some hardware tweaks like upgrading the RAM or SSD if needed, or replacing the battery.
Heck my Mac is from 2014 and it runs fairly fine.
