Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•If the US medical system is hypothetically killing off all the poor people, doesn't that mean that fewer doctors will be required as well?
11·1 day agoYeah, because if the poor die off, doctors no longer have people lower than they are. They’re the next on the chopping block. There’s no need for as many of them as there are.
If you’re not the best of the best, you’re dying out.
The only essential workers are tradespeople. And a massive amount of them will be killed off as well. Have you seen how many of them are going into those fields?
Planned obsolescence won’t help keep jobs, because the college-educated rich are only going to pay for the best.

1·1 day agoI’m hearing this scenario from everyone. I’m looking to clear up a few details.
And, don’t companies like Walmart prove that it is more profitable to take smaller gains, over time, than large profits?

1·1 day agoAnd when a massive number of people die at once?
When the lowest in society die, there will be a new lower class to take its place – closer to the doctors themselves.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What socioeconomic factors are driving Asians to convert to Abrahamic religions?English
22·3 days agoQuantum mechanics says that everything is related. Ice cream sales and murders rise and fall at the same times each year – during the Summer, when it’s hot outside. Asking why a certain group of people is suddenly taking an interest in another group of people isn’t racist. Especially when there’s been a long history of disinterest among those groups.
I didn’t make that application. I asked what was driving it. Not why all Asians like Abahamic religions.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What socioeconomic factors are driving Asians to convert to Abrahamic religions?
11·3 days agoHow? The trends represent real-world data. And, before anyone says anything about fear of Islam or Judaism, Jews don’t want people converting to their faith – it’s why they don’t proselytize. They believe you have to be born into it. And most Muslim converts, who weren’t born into the religion, leave it within 5 years anyway. There’s no reason to fear either taking over anything from conversions.
I just want to know what’s going on behind the scenes.

Technology@lemmy.world•An AI couldn’t beat humans at StarCraft, so it decided to cheatEnglish
112·6 days agoFirst of all, AI runs on the Theory of Evolution. It evolves processes to accomplish a desired outcome.
It didn’t cheat. It did what it was supposed to do: win.
We set up a situation where it could cheat, told it to win, then got angry with it, because we didn’t restrain it properly.
That’s because sites have stopped indexing their own info, because of Google.
Also, I’ve toyed with the idea of creating product categorization with a Dewey knock off. I’d be happy to catalog your site, if you did.

I just need to build out the system in a logical manner.
Wikipedia would be inf.ref.enc. Webster and Urban Dictionary? inf.ref.dic.
Standard library locations.
As far as the university goes, the system’s incomplete.
A library has books on several universities, but the book can only be in one place.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Is it just me, or are people becoming more prudish?
3·11 days agoResearch is showing that young people are having less sex, doing fewer drugs, and drinking less alcohol. Soda consumption is down. Restaurants are receiving fewer visitors.
Young people set modern culture shifts. With all due respect, they are to blame. The question I’m asking is, why? Not about all issues. Not negging them about their choices. Just curious why the aversion to swear words and nudity.

But you have a choice for the doctor/ER you use.
