That US’ians are cool people and a role model for how the world should be, boy was I (well, my dad) wrong.
I want to share this but no one is going to get the energy right 😂

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What book did you read last and what book are you currently reading? Would you recommend either of those books?
2·6 months agoLast: Pièrre Hadot, “Filosofie als een manier van leven” , the Dutch translation of “Qu’est-ce que la Philosophie Antique?” , or “What is Ancient Philosophy?”
Current: Caroline Criado Pérez, “Invisible Women”
I would definitely recommend Hadot for a clear overview and an interesting read on filosophical history. Invisible women is kind of a must-read to learn about the data gap in statistics of women.

Technology@lemmy.world•A global environmental standard for AI | MistralEnglish
171·6 months agoI have high hopes for Mistral. They’ve been working very hard on becoming an open, honest and secure player in the AI game. Being from France and thus having to adhere to the GDPR and EU AI Act. The transparency is also very welcome. They did sign the letter to postpone the EU AI Act by years, which was questionable.
Stepping out and showing the numbers, which are pretty damn hefty, is a ballsy move. Let’s hope they also focus on reusing the huge amount of water that gets pulled for cooling, though.
I’m not a fan of AI for its impact on the planet, but numbers like this hopefully makes people aware and consienceous about it. It will probably be here to stay for a good while, so AI companies being honest and working towards a more efficient and greener system will be a welcome treat.

Games@lemmy.world•What are the best free mmorpgs for a beginner?English
5·6 months ago+1 for guild wars 2!
I tried it, joined a couple rooms. Wanted to leave those public rooms but I kept getting notifications of rooms I already left.
Very wonky experience, so I dropped it and I use deltaChat now for my Tech-aware contacts

2·6 months ago3’s my least favorite numbered entry in the series, but the post-game of re:mind is pretty damn good.
I didn’t like how empty the world’s felt. Even though there’s barely any npc’s in 1, it felt the most alive. 2 was just corridors, but my god the combat feels good. 3 is an attempt to make the world’s bigger, ending up empty, and the combat is meh for the most part.

AI scrapers don’t respect this trust, and thus robots.txt is meaningless.

42·6 months agoFully agree. Americans have every chance and opportunity to not vote for geriatric maniacs. They only needed to look further than their TV screens, but they didn’t.
And seeing at the down votes, and anticipating the mockery of saying that both dems and reps don’t support the health, safety and prosperity for any but the rich and wealthy, I’ll say this:
Stop parroting and start looking at how your precious democratic party treated its poor, its illegal, its downtrodden, its sick. You’re a joke, kisses!

4·6 months agoAnd those people fleeing genuine threat should be welcomed as refugees. American voting citizens however, need to get their assess out on the streets and actually start challenging the police, ICE and government, instead of fleeing what they created.

And they have. There’s a reason his dictatorial party was voted largest and second largest. Its because there is a large group of people in the Netherlands dumb enough to trust a maniac like that.
