  • Conservation of energy is already broken by portals. Consider the portals in a frictionless tube (it could be frictioned, but that would be less fun) that use the earth’s gravity to accelerate the cube to the speed of light. If we are take the cube’s effect on the earth as non-negligible, then the earth has also accelerated a significant bit in the ‘upwards’ direction that the tube has. Simply run to the other side of the earth, put the ‘exit’ portal aiming towards the same direction as the ‘upwards’ of the tube, in this case directly at the earth, and now you have accelerated the earth twice as much in that ‘upwards’ direction with no apparent gain or loss of energy (and also have obliterated the earth, but let’s not talk about a cube’s mass hitting the earth at c.

As for the portal suddenly stopping while moving blazingly fast, sure, it’s a good quandary. It seems insane to think of the cube suddenly gaining momentum, but it’s also insane to think that a particle (in this case the portion of the cube’s atoms that are through the portal already) that is moving at speed somehow has no momentum.

  • You would need the portal panties to make it work. Portal A would be on a wall, or whatever object you want to thrust towards, and Portal B would be on the panties aimed at your opening. When you thrust forward at portal A, it would exit Portal B, and since Portal B is stationary (panties are magical, yo) to your opening, the pillar would rise from the portal and enter the opening.

  • As to the “playing god” thing, I was actually quite amazed at how touchy the IVF doctors were about that issue. They had some interesting rules about what they would and wouldn’t tell the parents about the offspring options. I’d have to go ask my friends about it again for all of them, but I remember one of the rules was the doctors wouldn’t tell them the color of the eyes before choosing.

  • Damn, and here I was, imagining her with a white monster in a strapon behind me, while someone from /c/hungcocks was in front of me with another white monster, and they have some neat trick to pop them open after entry…

Actually, wait, let’s have her in front of me and him behind me with another strapon and the white monster.

  • Interestingly enough, no, not really. If you want to look it up, they call it the ‘Matthew Effect’ (from the biblical parable in matthew about the servants being given tithes by the master and using them).

Kids who read more get more from what they read later. If you’ve read ten books and your neighbor only one, you retain more and understand more from the next book you’ve read. Unless you completely stop reading, or they suddenly start reading way more, the earlier start with your reading will give you far greater benefits. A humorous little fact is that you can predict college gpa better with the amount of books read by age five (I think, it might be by grade five, it’s been a while since I read the study) than by the SAT/ACT tests.

  • It’s a fucking poem, Linda. Chill your beans at trying to be an amateur psychologist for a man dead 300 years already.

There was a massive crime perpetrated against high school students. Somehow, the teachers took the good idea of teaching a book and pointing out its underlying themes and historical context (that scene in great expectations where the girl plays the card game against the protagonist, as an example) to gain a greater understanding… and drove it into the ground by needlessly making everything (the infamous blue curtains) this massive deal that you absolutely had to contemplate and tear apart and put together with everything else, waaaaah!

  • I think you don’t see much colt anymore because they were matched by other manufacturers in quality but they never dropped their prices. I had an acquaintance with a side hobby/job of putting together rifles for people who wanted to source their own parts and make ‘frankenstein’ ar rifle platforms. I can’t remember exactly now (it’s been over a decade), but a high quality gun would cost you a little over a grand, and colts would start at one-and-a-half grand. Cheap ones were as low as $300 or $400.

That’s just ridiculous for most people buying a gun. The choice is often dictated by pricing, and the name didn’t do enough to counter the price for the people who would care about names, and the quality wasn’t better than cheaper guns for the people who cared about quality. Colt just willed itself off into the sunset.

  • Binga bango. One of the most important things to realize with microwave warming is that just like all (okay, probably most) other forms of heating, it works from the source of the heat (which is outside of the burrito) towards the matter being heated.

In the form of government horrors to curb protests, it means shooting microwaves at you and causing your skin to feel as if it is being boiled. In the form of your burrito, it means that the outside of the burrito will be blistering hot, and continue heating, and the heat has to slowly be conducted inwards. If your plate is not perfectly resistant to the operation of the microwave, it will also be getting hot, and since it is typically thinner and has less heat capacity (because most food has water, which has gargantuan capacity) than your burrito, it’s going to get a lot hot, very totly.

So yes, use the power settings to allow the heat time to work it’s way into your burrito and not fry the outside to death while causing your plate to consider whether today’s a good day to go molten.

  • President Camacho!

On a more serious note, among the recents, I highly doubt Bush jr or Obama were into pedophilia. Nixon and LBJ both had power tripping tendencies, and we know LBJ like to talk about and even show his wang, so they might be candidates. I’d weigh in on Carter not being one, but obviously he was smart enough to know how to hide that sort of shit as a politician, so who knows… Ford’s another one that it could go either way.

Reagan probably was one but everyone at the epstein places was probably too smart to invite him in on it.

Personally, I stay away from the womens stuff community because it is so incredibly stupid to constantly whine about people coming in and commenting when you’re making a place that literally broadcasts your posts and comments in a way that invites others to come and comment. It’s no different than having a conversation on a busy street using bullhorns and then complaining about people joining in.

When some form of the fediverse can properly do closed communities with a whitelist, then I’ll happily head there.

Nah, anyone who has ever shot off their own fireworks knows that professional shows are idiotic. It is incredibly more fun to light your own, scramble back, and watch it blow. It’s not even a comparison. It’s the difference between watching a movie on the original gameboy instead of an imax theater. If you never had the chance to do it as a kid, don’t deprive your kids of the fun.

We just need a place that’s available for folks, relatively safe in not being a fire risk, and is NOT in a neighborhood or near ranches/farms, although I bet the county/city could rent a rancher’s field or pay enough to relocate the cattle for a few nights. Pay for a few busses, and you’ve got a slick set up.

It’s the same argument as with illicit drugs. Ban it, and people are just going to seek it out on their own. Regulate it, and you can start playing with all sorts of scenarios. How far would education go in reducing the amount of suddenly splayed hands that emergency rooms have to see? How many fires and traumatized folks/animals would suddenly no longer have to hear it if you encourage it to happen elsewhere instead of simply attempting to forbid it? You could offer a free mortar round to anyone taking a safety briefing before entering the fireworks grounds, or free ice cream for fifteen minutes of fire watch duty on the edges and/or any other prosocial activities you could get kids and teens up to.
