I use an nvidia shield, and used the developer options to disable Google’s built in launcher (and most other google related services). That’s what it takes to keep your chosen launcher. I also used an app to remap the netflix button on that stupid toblerone they call a remote to act as a mute button, so accidentally pressing it doesn’t cause me a minute of trying to get back to my content.
Better alternatives existing doesn’t give Windows a free pass to be as shitty as they want.
One thing a lot of people here seem to miss: The onedrive app actually calls it “Backup”. So users assume they have a copy of it on their computer and it is “backed up” to OneDrive.
But the other thing OneDrive does is turn on “Selective Sync”, where it will actually delete the files off your local device “to free up storage”. It looks like it is on your local computer, but when an app goes to use it, OneDrive quickly downloads it so the app is none the wiser that it wasn’t actually there a moment ago. This is all seamless to the user, until one day they are offline and can’t get to most of their files, or they lose access to their Microsoft account.
Everything a user needs to know is in the interface, Microsoft gives little symbols on the file to specify if there is a local copy or not, but most users have no idea what any of that means.
To top it off, just a little icing on the cake, if a user signs into the computer with a Microsoft account, bitlocker (full disk encryption) is automatically turned on, and the recovery key is shoved in their Microsoft account. This is convenient, but if they lose access to their Microsoft account, they can’t log into the computer to get it, and they can’t log into the website to get the bitlocker key. So even if their files are still on the PC, they have zero way to recover them.
Honestly, they’ve created a very convenient system, until it is impossible to recover anything. Business Environments have administrators that can help users by resetting their passwords or pulling a bitlocker key out of Intune, but for a home user? You’re just SOL.
For anyone scrolling past and not paying a lot of attention, the above image is almost certainly fake. Look at the background and the foreground. The background is clearly a sunny mid day picture, but somehow the two are sidelit l, like from a big open window. The original may be faked too, but let’s not fight slop with more slop. That just lets the propaganda win as “who knows what’s true?”
We can already run x86 code on ARM, that wont be a viable backwards compatibility excuse for next gen consoles. Xbox and Playstation may try to claim it is a reason, but it will be clear cut bull shit from the start.

GTA:O was why GTAV never got any expansion pack, and GTAVI took so long. GTA:O was all about the whales. It was miserable to play, because they focused on creating a grind which you could pay yourself out of, and it worked. They made ungodly amounts of money. That same thing will happen to GTAVI. Hopefully we get a good story out of the base game, but it is already being reported that things like “getting a haircut” are being locked behind the $100 SKU, and it’s only going to get worse from there.
They will suck every dime they can out of whales while ignoring everybody else.

I didn’t read it, but all of dBrand’s copy has a certain attitude to it. I doubt it’s AI, just a very unusual brand voice, and it’s kinda cute and funny at first, but after the 5th email in a week with the same “We’re so cool, we’re not like other companies” tone, I unsubscribed.
Yeah, a layer of plastic film well sealing the windows will go a long way. I know a lot of people like making foam inserts that make a huge difference. Insulating foam is cheap, and it just needs a layer of fabric glued to it to look half decent.

For years Google downgraded people’s experience on search, maps, and youtube on mobile if they didn’t use Chrome for Android. As a Firefox mobile user, it was very frustrating. I don’t use many Google services anymore, but they, seemingly intentionally, were making other browsers feel worse. I wouldn’t be surprised if they were doing it in different ways on desktop.
Linux has always had that problem. “Linux doesn’t support any games!” or “Linux can’t run Photoshop”. That’s the way it is always phrased and seen (and was much worse before Proton came along). Not “The devs didn’t bother supporting Linux” or “Adobe sucks”.
I, like most people, didn’t read the article. However, a lot of people use tracking tags on their pets collar so they can actually be tracked if they get out. I’m guessing that is what these cameras will be picking up.

I was joking for sure. Most of M365 is a hodgepodge of Exchange and Sharepoint, including Teams. But that’s all server side, so doesn’t matter to the client. They could make a the clients not terrible even if the server is hot garbage.
I’m excited that there are alternative browser engines being developed, but I lost a lot of enthusiasm for Ladybird when I learned more about the lead. Servo is another browser project coming along nicely, although Servo is closer to webkit than it is a fully fledged browser.
That’s interesting. I’m surprised there isn’t a bigger backlash to requiring WhatsApp with the digital sovereignty push I’ve been hearing about. I work for a US based SaaS provider, and we spent a lot of marketing and sales resources assuring European businesses that we aren’t part of the American push to take over the entire tech world.
As bbbbbbbbbbb said, every state not only has their own plates, but multiple plate designs. Some states, the variations will be completely different colors and number length. Absolutely no consistency.
