World News@lemmy.world•Japan moves for the first time to criminalize paying for sexEnglish
3·2 months agoThis is what i was told once upon a time. But upon actual research it sadly appears not. At least the newspaper is not on the list of properties of the asahi holdings that owns the beer company. (for some reason i am not able to paste the link onypjone)

Lemmy Shitpost@lemmy.world•Hmm this "unisex" bathroom seems biased...
151·6 months agoI find sitting easier than standing. It requires less attention (atleast if you have standards of the waste actually being in the pot).
One of the Grimm’s fairy tales.
Businesses buy and sell off each other and also create value. But sticking with the “if everyone did this” every one would run a one person business. Not efficient but would work. On the other hand if everyone is renting out houses, they can at most be renting out one (ignoring foe now second houses/holiday apts). Then everyone would be housed and paying each other in a circle. So, no, everyone doing what the post suggests can not work. All but the first house would be empty.

7·1 year agoAcknowledging the past, realising/feeling bad things were done, and deciding future choice need to be better is not the same as personally feeling shame. Feeling responsible for a better future and feeling responsible for bad past decisions are independent concepts.

Programmer Humor@programming.dev•Gotta use those quantum numbers for peak 🤌 random randomnessEnglish
5·1 year agothe trick is to combine all your uncertainty sources together. So in the worst case your numbers still have as much entropy as if you did not have the external source. And even if somebody else knows those numbers they do not know the actual numbers you are using. Of course that raises the question: if your other entropy source is good enough that you are happy in your worst case what is the benefit from some extra source of entropy? So i have argued myself into agreeing with you :) crypto is not a good use case for such a service. The wall of lavalamps mentioned above is a better solution.

Videos@lemmy.world•Why don't railroads need expansion joints?English
4·1 year agoNowadays there are no thermal expansion joints, the rails are welded. Any thunk thunk left is at switches.
in addition to mouth anus, and mouth nose, there is also a nose eye connection (as with nose for left and right hole respectively). Depending how broken your eardrums are these would be further connections. So def. more than a donut.

News@lemmy.world•The Guardian: Revealed: Far higher pesticide residues allowed on food since BrexitEnglish
2·1 year agoThe point was that this was a change that required an explicit act by parliament to happen, i.e. they made a concious choice to increase the limits. The laws did not automatically revert/change when brexit was decided.
So the timeline is: UK as part of EU adopts the regulation into national law. UK leaves EU, national law is unchanged by this (so regulation persists). UK makes a new national law changing the amount of pesticide residue allowed to be higher.
