Man, English is so wacky. After reading that post twice the structure fell apart in my mind, and I’m a native speaker. Hats off to anyone who picked up the language along the way.

1·7 months agoI’ve heard some actual numbers thrown about that are in the triple digits. Like if you cap the top 230 most wealthy people at a billion (or 10) US, we could build a shitton of lead free aquaducts or whatever your favorite ‘metric of the commons’ is.
A Game About Digging a Hole looks to be a fun game to play while your legs fall asleep on the toilet. Only 20% off, but it’s a sub $5 game.

311·7 months agoIt is just a reinforcement for us. He has probably never had more than the ever-elusive ‘fleeting high’. He’s in a skinner box, where he has already maxed out the ill effects of one of our more powerful tools (money). He has to go to ever further extents to quiet the demons that most of us had to cope with since adolescence.
To drive the point home, he’ll never be able to make any new authentic connections in his life (if he ever could in the past). While it is a bit copium, and I am as frothy in the mouth about his antics as any well-meaning individual, I do find it one of the constant, if smallest, wins.

The only reason that last paragraph ain’t outright ai garbage (besides my elegant use of ‘everyperson’, mind you) is that there is a semi-original though buried at the end of it. This paragraph is odacious, so point taken.

71·8 months agoOr maybe even take a step back. Dead internet theory is real and we’re living it, but just because the main subreddits and FB are ai schlock doesn’t mean Lemmy is the only ‘real’ place.
I feel the hardest part is keeping my senses about me when I argue with hivemind mentality. You will probably get a feeling from my writing, that I too embraced the hive speak and mind. And this is where the bots get the everyperson. Bots speak in hivemind and meme format. I think this whole kerfuffle will do wonders for real online discussion, as low-effort discussions will be dismissed as white noise.

2·8 months agoIt’s still fun to hear the man himself talking about a larger than life virtual reality.
The tech still scares me, I’m not even sure I’d be okay with EEG-like patches that work both ways (scifi, I know), not to mention brain surgery, for pure decadence. But the quality of life benefits really can be huge for many, and that really got my fantasy going, once I ‘accepted’ we figured out the limits and safeties of bodily autonomy.
both corporations and consumers have shown
I don’t think this a preference question. More like something intrinsic to a society based on market.
I’m kinda partial to Rage Against Vanessa Carlton.
They call it ‘The Valley of the Hung Hobo’.
Meh, I kinda get it. Like who has more power, Trump or the Walton family? The latter is fairly in the background. Sachlers were (and are) getting away with the opiate epidemic.
Sure there is a level, where it’s only seeing shadow men, but Bill Gates, Musk or Bezos as a final boss seems anticlimatic. I do subscribe to the deep state idea, but I see it more like powerful people trying to keep their power, but it’s more of a random walk than an orchestrated psyops.
Hey baby… You lookin fine tonight!
Like when you set up 10 pins for someone else to knock down with a ball and it’s pretty symmetric?

Yes, but with “fixing” the structure, you have robbed it of colloquialism. Maybe it’s just me projecting.
I lived among non-native speakers for the longest time, and shaped my English using my knowledge of other languages to bridge some gaps in communication. Now I’m back to a native environment and catch myself slipping up with my invented phrases.
The thing is, I can’t find another combination of words to convey the exact sentiment so succintly, even though I’m not sure it’s gramatically correct.
