World News@lemmy.world•Iranian warship sunk by the US was sailing home after taking part in an exhibition hosted by IndiaEnglish
1·5 months agoConsider me asking for help then. I’ve read the wikipedia article on war crimes and it says nothing about the reasons you gave. I’ve wathced a YouTube video before about war crimes that made me think that this probably wasn’t one but watching a video obviously doesn’t make me an expert and I hope you believe me when I say that I honestly want to find out whether this was a war crime or not.

21·5 months agoI don’t think these make this a war crime but I’m not an expert, can you show me an article describing or explaining it as such. Like I’m not interested in whether it was right or moral (it wasn’t) but as far as I can tell it wasn’t a war crime.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Can a reasonable person genuinely believe in ghosts?
1·5 months agoCan you disprove all mediums? What if someone has an experience with them that they can’t explain but felt powerful and they made a personal choice to believe that they did talk to a dead relative.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Can a reasonable person genuinely believe in ghosts?
2·5 months agoit is not irrational, to observe (or experience) something and not being able to explain it.
I agree, and that’s where I would stop, I can’t explain it, I don’t know what this is.
I think in general it matters what we believe to be true or not, you might think that in a certain situation believing a false thing can result the same (or better) way than not believing but beliefs are not restricted to certain situations and will inform our decisions elsewhere, maybe with more dire consequences. A quick example would be mediums who pray and scam grieving people out of time and money.

World News@lemmy.world•US to withdraw from NATO under Republican billEnglish
21·1 year agoYou’re right, let me rephrase that. The US is the only NATO country with living experience in invading non-neighboring countries with current methods, doctrines and technologies. That’s not a simple thing to do and that know-how is extremely valuable if you want to invade someone else.

3·1 year agoUS arms are still flowing to Ukraine and the sanctions against Russia still stand. I’m not saying things haven’t gotten worse under Trump but it’s clear that the US still has an anti-Russia policy.

World News@lemmy.world•US to withdraw from NATO under Republican billEnglish
210·1 year agoRussia has an army that is capable of invading another country. The only country in NATO that have done that is the US. I don’t think Russia invading the whole of the EU is a realistic possibility but grabbing a few ex Soviet countries off the border…

I live in Central Europe too but I have almost the opposite experience. The way I see it is that tipping culture is way worse in the US but we were always bad here aswell and we’re inching towards them every year. Honestly I also doubt that service industry people are not getting fucked almost everywhere in Europe.
