Reminds me of the opening paragraph from ‘States of Matter’:

This is absolutely the case. In the documentary “The Fog of War” (a great documentary IMO) Robert McNamara explains how he helped create a personality test to screen applicants for Ford (I think it was them).
One of the questions was “Would you rather be a coal miner or a florist?”. McNamara says his family had owned a florist but the answer they wanted coal miner. For “obvious reasons”.

Have you played Wing Commander: Privateer? It predates Freelancer by a bit but it hit a lot of the same notes for me.
This is really neat! It makes me wonder about all the different evolutionary branches that didn’t persist over time or leave a fossil record.
That’s him, if you like him in that I would highly recommend his show “I Think You Should Leave”.
