6·5 days agoThe timing couldn’t be better, considering that YouTube doubled the amount of views required to become a YouTube partner for new Creators. If you can get monetized on BiliBili aas well amd earn money with it like you can with YouTube, new Creators might indeed choose BiliBili over YT now.
Still more durable than US paper houses lolol

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•How hopeless is getting a job with a CS degree?
51·9 days agoWell, the IT job market can change very quickly, so it is very difficult to predict what the job market will look like when you enter it in around 6 years (I assume that’s how long it will also take in the US to get a Bachelor + Master?). It could be that in 6 years the AI bubble has popped and dumb managers will realize that AI can’t replace every Software Developer.
I’d say go ahead and study CS, and if you can’t find a job as a Software Developer, you can then look in neighboring IT fields, such as System Administrator, where you (for example) have to administrate Linux servers, and since you say you already have experience with this, it should give you an advantage in applications.

2·9 days agoI thought we are all communists here on Lemmy? So the concept of ownership doesn’t exist and everything belongs to everyone?
Because everything the EU and the rest of the world does is stupid. By adapting things from other countries would be akin to acknowledging that other countries can do some things better than the US. But this can’t be, since the US is Numbaaa 1! /s

Cos its a prefix regarding the unit
In the context of prices of cars it is indeed a rather small amount.
k is just a prefix, it is unit-independent
Because humans are creatures of habit, and as long as stuff works for them, even suboptimally, a lot of people aren’t inclined to change their habits, even if it might mean a change would improve their lives. As long as sth is “good enough”, there simply isn’t an incentive for change.
Also, since there isn’t a huge corporation behind Linux, there is literally no direct advertisement for it, so people who aren’t into tech simply never will get in touch with it.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What have you completely stopped buying because the price has gotten ridiculus?
2·12 days agoI agree that tobacco products should be heavily taxed, but should cigarettes be banned outright? I’m not sure banning is the right way to go, I mean just look at what the prohibition of alcohol back then did. A thriving, unregulated black market. People should be able to buy cigarettes, that way they can be sure of what it is they are smoking.
Just my opinion tho.

5·13 days agoA lot of food is still safe to consume after it’s expiration date, tho. I think in the US it’s called ‘best by’ or sth like that, underlining that it isn’t necessarily a hard expiration date, just that it tastes the best before this date.
