Traditional Art@lemmy.world•Sayed Haider Raza, Bindu Series (2006)English
1·3 months agoHi, could you please put the year this was painted in the title (you can edit it)? I think that’s an important context for posts in this community!

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•For when arguments go off the bottom of The Debate Pyramid
4·3 months agoI don’t think the use of a pyramid is ideal here. It implies that violence is the basis of every conflict and should be used most often.

3DPrinting@lemmy.world•Anyone had any luck running Fusion 360 on Linux?English
5·3 months agoThe main function of the script is to enable the browser redirect for the login. Sometimes Autodesk changes how the login works and logs you out. Then you can’t login back again, because the browser redirect doesn’t work.

3DPrinting@lemmy.world•Anyone had any luck running Fusion 360 on Linux?English
42·3 months agoYes and no. This install script works well, but it breaks every few months (not the fault of the script, but Autodesk). Then you have to wait for an update and reinstall everything.

They are all around 2k right now. This is a promo offer.

3DPrinting@lemmy.world•The 3DMakerpro Toucan Is a Game-Changer for 3D ScanningEnglish
6·4 months agoMeh. It’s all about how well it keeps the tracking. I just hope it’s not as closed down as my Einstar Vega. And it’s nice to have more choices for AIO scanners.
Edit: also, don’t ever expect to operate it one-handed like in the promo pics. It’s even heavier than my vega.

6·4 months agoSeems like they’re asking for the Tyler Durden “refinement”.
Yup, they’re just lightly pressed into a tapered hole. You just have to turn them with a greater force than the string exerts on them, and ideally they stay put after you let go of them. Works well for gut/synthetic strings, less so for steel strings because those lengthen very little so friction tuners would be too imprecise.

3DPrinting@lemmy.world•Does It Make Sense To Upgrade A Prusa MK4S To A Core One?English
121·4 months agoThe upgrade kit costs half of a full Core one Kit (in Europe). That doesn’t sound financially wise no matter how you look at it. The MK4S still is in no way outdated to justify sacrificing it for such an expensive upgrade.
Like linseed oil and caramel.
I’ve just bought it roasted. It was originally intended for billiard cues.
Edit: sorry, I missed the joke. 😅

Woodworking@lemmy.ca•A few tuning pegs made from roasted maple
13·4 months agoHonestly, I don’t know. I didn’t expect to see literal air bubbles rising from the wood in the oil bath. That’s a lot of oil, so I expect several months for it to fully harden. Maybe I can speed up the process with an UV lamp.

10·5 months agoI always thought military training was about improving people’s ability to fight for their country, not reduce it. And yet, it’s not the first time I’ve heard that kind of story.
I wonder how doctors could compare this simulation to a real surgery. I’m willing to bet it’s “realistic and lifelike” in the way a 4D movie is.
I think “lifelike” in this context means a dead human. The robot was originally trained on pigs.

World News@lemmy.world•S.African woman gets life for selling 6-year-old daughterEnglish
16·8 months agoThe child had albinism. There are known cases in other African countries where people with albinism have been killed and their bodyparts been used for “witchcraft” purposes. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Persecution_of_people_with_albinism)
But it took a turn when prosecutors alleged that Smith sold her daughter to a traditional healer, who was interested in her eyes and fair complexion.
I think that implies that the child was literally butchered and its bodyparts sold.
Yes. It prints similar to an inkjet printer, but the inks are UV-curable. UV inks don’t need a special medium like coated inkjet paper, they stick to any surface. You can also layer multiple coats on top of each other to create reliefs (like resin printing, but with colours)

Is that a coffee machine?
