Check your insulin sensitivity (homa-ir, or tg/HDL ratio, or fasting insulin) to see what type of ldl you have. Unfortunately that’s not something measured by the company that my employer sells the data to. Or at least it isn’t a stat that’s revealed back to me.

Gonna have to remember this before my next semi-mandatory yearly biometric screening for work. My LDL is the only thing wrecking my score.

Decided to look into the yellow counties in Montana because I was shocked if they could even be 49%. Petroleum County (a truly American name) in Montana has 228 occupied households and seemingly no public transportation. However, 58.2% of the county is employed in mining.

So my best guess is a company bus that comes around and picks up everybody? It seems like the bulk of the remainder are farmers, which would mean they don’t “need” to drive anywhere. Although they do drive constantly across their property as part of the work, which feels like cheating.

I think size is the biggest factor. OS ISOs are pretty big, so having a managed download is helpful. If the 100 GB triple-A games were open source I would certainly expect torrents. But the FOSS things I download directly are pretty small, and the vast majority are done through a package manager or docker compose. So there may be a Goldilocks zone in the middle where it’d be helpful, but in those cases I’d expect a small installer that downloads the bulk of it for you.

So not much benefit for the consumer, but what about the provider? Spreading the traffic would reduce load on the hosting server which is a positive. You’d still have to handle the bulk of the traffic until the seeders outpace the leechers, but on long enough timescales it’d be helpful. Except you can’t really update a torrent, which means each release needs to start fresh. This still works for OS creators because updates tend to be far apart, there is a large user base, and there is still some market for older versions. For regular programs you may only get one of those three, at which point adding torrents may be more hassle than it’s worth.

I wasn’t trying to correct you, I’m just an idiot who managed to spell it two different ways in the same post. It sounds like both spellings are valid, but I still shouldn’t mix-n-match.

I would argue it’s not only engrained in society, or even ingrained in the human psyche, it’s engrained in nature itself. Violence in nature is often rewarded with subordinance, and our evolutionary lineage has certainly continued it.

Overcoming that instinct globally is going to require a huge cultural shift, but we will be much better off if we do.

I was about to say the opposite. They somehow made it uglier.

It’s really a good showcase of how CGI should augment practical effects, not replace them. Fury Road is another good example.

I’ve never heard of anyone else who’s seen Ladyhawke. Everyone I’ve shown it to hated it, but there’s something I love about it. The sets, locations, costumes, dialogue, all great. The transformations they tried to do on-screen are my least favorite part, though.

Don’t forget they lost Best Costume to Planet Of The Apes because the mimes they hired to play the monkeys were so convincing they were assumed by many to be real.

I watched the Netflix series and then the Making Of show about it. Apparently they tried CGI gelflings to cut costs and just couldn’t live up to the puppetry, so eventually Netflix relented and gave them enough budget to match Henson’s original quality.

I’m fully prepared to take it down in a year or two because it turned into a filthy rain cloud. But until then it sure does give off some nice light and makes for an interesting piece to look at.

I wish more people had this attitude. So many people won’t start a project because it may not be perfect. I’m certainly guilty of it sometimes. But the world is so much better for having these creations, even if they may not last forever.

I heard the dev didn’t intend for those to stack and it’s nerfed in the next patch.
