  • Yeah and it goes both ways. She can post her crap, and haters can hate. She can ignore them and they choose not to ignore her. That’s where the conflict comes in.

The whole DMCA thing only made it worse. She exposed herself as a target for hatred and the haters love nothing more than for the enemy to expose their glowing weak point to shoot at.

But that’s because if we want copyright and parody to coexist, they need to have limits. Parody gets a blanket license to reuse source material endlessly unless you can justify the expense of an attorney to hit a moving target that may be made from hundreds of individuals mocking your content. That’s kind of shitty and almost impossible to defend against. It’s like how you can’t copyright a tweet because it is too short. But you should be able to copyright a body of tweets because aggregated they are (checks notes) not too short. In her case the bonehurtingjuice community turned into an active troll campaign to target every one of her comics to harass and demean her.

So in this case I do think the internet trolls on bhj were shitheads and were in the wrong. Even if that coexists with my opinion that her comics kind of suck. And frankly I think the current legal system is at fault for not having adapted to coordinated trolling. She’s probably going to get killed by one of those gamergate nutjobs now that she’s been doxxed.

Note how Jin, the Nazi Defender (not a Nazi themselves, they just defend people who are justifiably called Nazis) won’t respond to your answer.

One feature from Reddit I liked was the ability to tag people. Or maybe that was the reddit enhancement suite. But Jin would’ve earned himself a big red “Nazi Defender” tag.

  • Uhg. All of the commercial real estate in the US is mortgaged and the owners just roll it over continuously - allowing the banks to set policy in contract to not reduce the $/sqft of commercial real estate. So everything here is just empty and the owners can write off the empty stores as losses on their taxes to offset the taxes from their profits.

There are so many things that can be done to fix the US but they chose to triple-down on the approaches that broke everything. Sigh. I’m really happy to hear Japan figured out the right balance. It’d be amazing if those best practices could be imported but I’m sure they’ll start tarriffing ideas soon too.

  • I think it is a pile of dead bodies, but I’m not convinced it is a systemic mass slaughter. I think it was a cellblock riot that was put down. I watched the propaganda video where Bukele was introduced to CECOT and it had plenty of lethal weaponry on site. They spoke deliberately and clearly about how the prisoners would be treated with lethal force if necessary and I believe them. If it were a mass extermination, they would have built facilities to do that. It’s well known that the Nazi deathcamps were built to psychologically insulate the guards from the terror they were inflicting - and CECOT is clearly well built based on the designs of other prisons. The designers would have definitely taken notes from the deathcamps if that were their intention.
