Mildly Infuriating@lemmy.world•Umm I think I'll just delete you insteadEnglish
2·3 years agoThe user interface itself is amazing, true seamless multiple device support - including web clients (with your drafts synced on all your devices too), live location sharing, polls, live voice channels, good stickers, bots, public groups/channels, 2gb file sharing, video messages, usernames, etc.

21·3 years agoSignal is only good at doing one thing, and that’s encryption. It lacks so many useful features that Telegram has.

Technology@lemmy.world•If you value privacy, ditch Chrome and switch to Firefox nowEnglish
1·3 years agoWhat if you run the portable version of Firefox? How would they know?

General Discussion@lemmy.world•Lemmy.world active users is tapering off while other servers are gaining serious traction.
2·3 years agoI never said that lemmy.ca had more performance, I said the ping was lower and responsiveness was better.

181·3 years agoI have an account on lemmy.world, but when I ping it, I’m in the 100ms. I ended up on lemmy.ca where the ping is 3ms average, it makes a big difference in responsiveness.

Linux@lemmy.ml•PSA: the OpenStreetMap-community has arrived to Lemmy as wellEnglish
3·3 years agoOrganic Maps is indeed open source and available through f-droid/GitHub/Telegram.
It’s actively developed and it’s UI is more easier to use than OSMAnd. The search accuracy is also way better than in OSMAnd, in which I often can’t find places.

8·3 years agoOSMAnd is pretty nice, but Organic Maps is just way better IMHO.

Linux@lemmy.ml•Advice for a middle-age, moderately pc knowledgeable person to finally switch to or become proficient with Linux?
3·3 years agoHave you tried OnlyOffice? It’s pretty much like MS office and documents compatibility is really good.

Android@lemmy.world•What are some useful apps that are only found on F-Droid?English
2·3 years agoYeah, you have more control on the widgets in Kvaesitso.

3·3 years agoKvaesitso ia great, but I keep coming back to Kiss. Having your most used/history apps easily accessible from bottom to top (instead of being only at the top of the apps folder) is so convenient and easier accessible. You don’t have to move your hands to the top of the phone.
Edit: I missed a specific setting that allows you to have the search page reversed (bottom to top), so favorites and most used are at the bottom. It’s definitely better, but I still fall back to Kiss.

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•Lemmy faces the same expectations problems as every free/libre software
21·3 years agoTry wefwef.app (go to this website and install it as an app/add it to your homescreen), it’s simply amazing.
As for network errors, try switching to an instance close to your house with a low ping, it’ll make a big difference. Go to https://fediverse.observer/map and select Lemmy instances.

You Should Know@lemmy.world•YSK: Signal is a great secure private messenger app comparable to others on the market.
2·3 years agoThat’s what I always said. Signal only does one thing right, encryption, and that’s it. The rest isn’t great, they kept the server side code hidden for 1 year to implement the shitty MoxieCoin (so Moxie and his friends could get rich) and removed SMS recently.
I moved to Telegram and the features are so great there’s no way I’ll ever use Signal. If you really need E2EE you can use it in personal chats. For regular chats, the fact that you have access to all your messages from everywhere is really convenient.
Because the only good thing about Signal is it’s encryption.
