Sometimes I think if you spend enough time watching a bird and the bird watches back and you do this consistently enough then an exchange takes place. Like how dogs look like their owners and vise versa. But my theory is that it’s more than a surface level exchange. So you probably have some goose madness and the goose has a little of your madness too.

Don’t trust people who think they have all the answers (myself included). Try not to compare yourself to other people, forge your own path one step at a time. There’s only so much we can control. It seems like the biggest immediate hurdle is just finding a safe place to live and exist.

Try to ask for help wherever it’s available. I’m not in the US but it seems like Seattle and surrounds is the place to be if you can get there. Bellingham maybe. Local FB trans/queer housing page where I live is still active.

Try not to let most recent social stuff decimate your self worth. If you’re anything like me you’ve rebuilt before. It’ll get easier with time.

Everything you’ve mentioned in this situation is a valid reason to feel the way you do. That would put me into crisis too.
There are good people out there, including people that will meet you where you are, understand and help.
Sometimes you just have to hang on for dear life.
Survive by any means necessary.

Not sure I ever existed any other way, hence long history of self medication. But I’m learning schema therapy at the moment and using Lemmy to talk about concepts helps to solidify them so here’s some unsolicited advice.

Shame is never going to be conducive to getting out of that cycle. You can’t self flagellate yourself out of it, but your brain might depend on shame in order to reaffirm what you think you know to be true about yourself and to stay in a familiar cycle.

Schema uses a model including ‘neurotypical critic’ to simplify all these messages we internalise from a society that focuses on optimisation and productivity. Beliefs we form about ourselves that typically solidify by the time we’re 5 years old.

Had a sweet experience lately with this older guy who was talking about his experiences in the area as a young person, he didn’t really stop walking, just slowed pace so it didn’t feel like a tonne of pressure or threatening in the slightest.

It’s a bit of an art. Good on you for getting out of your comfort zone.

Someone should write a Dr Seuss style book about this circular debate on voting so people can move on and argue about more pertinent stuff.

If you don’t move on and find it in yourself to be angry at the system as a whole then you’re still going to be ranting about this in 20 years. It’ll become a part of who you are.

Noo the hair is great. I think Pulaski was better too. It’s just that the vast majority of star trek fans identity with data because of reasons and she’s not warm off the bat or geared towards the masculine gaze. She’s a top notch doctor but before she’s been through the particular experiences that lend to a cold but genuinely helpful empathy. Which would have made for some killer character development had she not been replaced.

Have to watch DS9 again but remember the scenes where he encounters his abuser facading as his family as being particularly brutal and being annoyed he was put in that situation to begin with. Like the crew of DS9 didn’t recognise any issue until he’d involuntarily shapeshifted into a monster
