Canada@lemmy.ca•Conservative MP refusing pay bump was heckled, chastised by his colleaguesEnglish
4·11 days agoNot surprising, but still worth calling them out for it, and worth reminding people what sort of people are we putting into parliament and making decisions for us all. This sort of behaviour should never be normalized or accepted as normal.

16·11 days agoPR stunt or not, it sure did bring up the ugly sides of the Cons. Not that we didn’t already have enough evidence of that.

28·11 days agoFuck those MPs. Grow the fuck up. You get thrown an uncomfortable dilemma and instead of handling and considering it, you would, instead get mad at the person who raised the dilemma, and engage in essentially classroom bullying?
MP Dawson, you aren’t betraying the Cons if you leave them. They don’t care about you or your morals, and there’s no trust and / or honour between yourselves. Cutting such a relationship does not constitute betrayal; what is there for you to betray?

351·28 days agoIt’s sad that this is basically everywhere these days, and employers will weigh your performance review based on whether you’re using AI and how well you’re using it. It’s terrible.

Canada@lemmy.ca•Is more trade with China really a good idea? -- [Opinion]English
2·2 months agoOh, well, sorry I didn’t understand what your intent was, cause I couldn’t see what the connection was. I thought what you said there was a given, but you’re right to mention it cause there are those who still clinging to the idea that we can go back even when they say they aren’t.
IMO, there’s a possibility that things can get better in the US, but regardless of whether that happens or not, Canada needs to understand how its over-reliance on the States has led itself to our predicament today.

31·2 months agoAnd then what? Sit around and just say “Oh we deserve this”, or “We had it coming”? The younger generation know of these transgressions, and they are ashamed of it. They don’t deserve to fully shoulder the sins of the past, not while we’re alive.

52·2 months agoAn arguable but irrelevant comparison. They’re both bad. Being better doesn’t mean anything when both don’t care about our plight and will actively fan the flames if it suits their purpose.

93·2 months agoNot only is China more erratic, we’re talking about a government that has and is still actively meddling with Canadian affairs, and is already clearly exploiting our weakness to pressure the Canadian government into doing things their way.
In all frankness, I sometimes think that, to the CCP, Canada is nothing to them but a land that shares a large border with their largest superpower rival, and if we were to bend, they would be able to use us against the US.

Canada@lemmy.ca•Trump is laying the groundwork for a destructive relationship with Mexico and Canada in 2026: Mexico could be next, and "plenty (of drugs) come through Canada too."English
1·2 months agoI’ve got a friend who’s a dual citizen of the US and Canada, white, had his brown, Canadian girlfriend with him, drove down to NYC with a Canadian license plate, and on their way back, some truck driver on country roads was giving him a hard time and flipping him fingers. Not sure if the truck driver saw the brown girlfriend, but I’d say it’s beyond racist at this point; just dumb nationalists.

Canada@lemmy.ca•Carney says Canada 'welcomes the opportunity for freedom' after Maduro's captureEnglish
61·2 months agoThis is such a bad title, almost like it’s very purposely clipped by the National Observer to induce outrage against Carney. His full statement makes it clear that the gov’s stance is such that the actions that the US took isn’t condoned, but there are potential benefits for Venezuela.
We can argue about whether harsher words should’ve been said, but at a time when the US administration is emboldened to do extreme things and blatantly ignore the law or common sense, you can’t deny that safer to be picking our words lest we be next, at a time when we wouldn’t be able to resist easily.

Maybe not exactly MMO-like cause it’s like Diablo and Path of Exile: Grim Dawn.
