1·2 years agoYes. Often an add on. In Canada, it’s especially the case with koodo (telus’ “discount” brand) or lum (sasktel’s).

Pick 1 FREE Perk (available in Self Serve) Premium Voicemail Unlimited International SMS (from Canada) Rollover Data
Where the roll over data is the much better choice that would hurt to give up for roll over data

5·2 years agoIt happens on device before your carrier. So you don’t have to pay for voicemail. Big unexpected surprise for me (as I don’t have vm). Otherwise it’s on the fly and instant. Thought I wouldn’t care but sending unknow callers there is slick.

Ya I think so. These are always tech articles and Foss software is always a big feature.
But 1password has on going audits and a sane ui and mobile apps that pass the boomer-parent test. Canadian company too which is nice given the US centric tech world.
I’m in the migration path for sandhills and so I’m only used seeing them in farmer fields and super twitchy (due to hunting season). It’s so wild to see them in the South in people’s front yards!

9·3 years agoI don’t understand what this provides. They already make it so you don’t have to give out credit card info. Is it just to avoid bank fees in some way? Avoid banking regulation?
Also whooping cranes. I’ve had them twice fly over head and they come in so fast compared to the other migrating birds – snow geese and cranes – it’s incredible. Seeing them far off, and you just “know”. Grab the camera and hope they fly over. They’re also a spectacular “good news” story of conservation.
I also watched a great grey owl hunt for voles for an hour, totally oblivious to us just sitting there. First time over ever wished for a shorter lens!

News@lemmy.world•US Spies Are Lobbying Congress to Save a Phone Surveillance ‘Loophole’
23·3 years agoIntroduced by US representatives Warren Davidson and Sara Jacobs, the amendment, first reported by WIRED, would prohibit US military agencies from “purchasing data that would otherwise require a warrant, court order, or subpoena” to obtain. The ban would cover more than half of the US intelligence community, including the NSA, the Defense Intelligence Agency, and the newly formed National Space Intelligence Center, among others.
I guess I’m not surprised, but I didn’t realize they had warrantless access to these data. With the attacks on e2e in the UK this really drives home how important encryption.

I can’t imagine making that trip in the late summer in the boreal on foot. Very sad regardless
