Michelle Pfeiffer is absolutely amazing. The range she has as an actor is unreal and I genuinely believe I am watching someone lose their mind when I watch that movie.

Yeah, I’m surprised to learn it still has a strong following. It was too pantomimish for me, but I made my own fan edit that’s about 45 minutes shorter and I find that more watchable. Different strokes, etc.

I’ve has it on CD since the 90s. It’s one if those CDs I don’t think to play as often, and I normally give those away. But every time I give it one last listen I decide to keep it. Some excellent tracks on it.

Ironically it’s Tim Burtons fault it went to Schumacher after his self indulgence with Returns. If he’d matched the tone of the 1989 movie (wildly successful) it could easily have been another hit.
That whole situation leads me to the unpopular opinion that the 1989 Batman was as good as it was because of Burton, yes, but importantly the other creatives and producers.

Not when they can flash the capitalism card.
I see what you mean, yes.
I do wonder if that’s an intentional form of radical flanking to make Reform appear more moderate to floating voters.

Full solidarity to First Nations, who are treated so appallingly by the settler/colonisers.
That sounds like an exceptionally unplanned rally, or the wrong person had the bullhorn. But we have to start somewhere so well done all.

A lot of them use this in the HTML:

I’ve scripted a fair bit of scraping in the past just by looking for those kinds of entries. But only focussed on a few dozen websites so I can’t say how common it is.
If the fetching function can validate the data it should be able to continue without a date if needed.

Yeah, dates in submission links would be great. Wonder if it can be automated so when I submit a URL, lemmy fetches the creation date while it’s fetching the headline.

The far right only have to organise around a handful of simplistic ideas. They talk in tabloid headlines. Smear shit and hope the millionaire fash send money your way. It’s as easy as flipping hamburgers.
The left have to deal with the complexities of reality. They need to talk with stakeholders and learn from specialists in a given subject at a given time. They are limited by language that can express the complexity of our societies and what makes them run well.
I’m not saying that’s the full explanation, but it’s inherently harder to organise something more complex and creative. It’s easier to organise a dirty protest.

The article is dated September 2026 and aligns with pamphlets being delivered here in Ireland too. It’s not preparation for war necessarily but for things like fuel shortages, weak supermarket supplies, etc.
The article is interesting because it’s common sense stuff but also the kinds of things that are easily forgotten.

Yeah, it seems like a new type of judgement is needed that I don’t normally encounter in a day. Like, I use a hammer to hammer nails, then I put it down. I don’t try to cook with it. This tool has a weird, abstract nature to it where you can drift between using / misusing / abusing without necessarily noticing. A strange position to be in while trying to work at the same time .

I’m finding it hard to reconcile the people who find it useless with those who find it useful. My own experience with languages is that it speeds me up for tasks I have the skills to verify, but with ones I don’t it can slow me down doing the verification and fixes.
I know software developers in a Fortune 500 company who swear that overall they are far more productive with “agents”. I don’t know if it’s a highly tailored system rather than the more all-purpose ones the general public have. So I do wonder if there are use cases for it.
It’s ruining the planet and our societies, though. And it’s distracting us from what really matters. Net negative for sure.
Edit: they’re also not very good at their most basic tasks. Researchers have found that when the major LLMs summarise articles, it misrepresents the facts 51% of the time.

That was a good video. Joins a few more of the dots.
That presenter is very good and I was surprised at the end that he knew Ed Sheeran personally but didn’t hold back. Well, maybe just a little.
Ten minutes long, for anyone wondering.

Nice. Best comment on the thread so far.

100%. A lot of shady people operating from a comfortable distance.

Agreed. We shouldn’t let them hide behind anyone.
The way the temperatures keep rising, it’s increasingly becoming hot corpse summer for many of us.
