The fact he missed work for a doctor’s appointment? I mean that’s pretty common and not really “news” worthy. I think most people will miss work for doctors appointments. Am i missing something?

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Unifi Protect - Wife Approval Factor? +HA integrationEnglish
3·5 months agoOutside ring a unifi ecosystem is going to be your next best bet. I have four cameras (poe) and the G4 doorbell (wireless). I run protect with a sata SSD drive on the cloudkey gen2+. Everything just pretty much works. I have not tried to use other brand cameras though. The experience is pretty consistent with other unifi gear. From my wifes perspective she has never complained and weve had it for 2 years now. It easy to navigate and always works.
Only thing id note though is you probably want some kind of SSD for the camera storage. A harddrive is probably better long term but without an SSD the video takes longer to load and scrubbing video can get painful. ie your wife will get annoyed. Itll work with an hdd but its just noticeably less snappy.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•How come some people can work 8 hours straight and then have energy to hit the gym, but if I walk for 1 hour in the treadmil all that I can is lay down for the rest of the day?
13·6 months agoMy best advice is start small. Try walking for 30 minutes and work your way up. The hardest part of working out is consistency. It doesn’t really matter what you do but just make sure you do something everyday. Dont let yourself make excuses. If you can form the habit of doing something everyday your 99% of the way there.

8·10 months agoIs the server exposed to the internet at all? ie, Did you open a port on your firewall to allow inbound connections? If not, then nothing should be exposed to the internet and you should have no problem. Proton is also a vpn not a firewall and really doesn’t offer much protection against attacks. It basically just muddies the water on the origin of your Internet traffic.

A big under rated source is your local library. Mine has a few hundred dvds and blu-rays and they add a few more every month.

Technology@lemmy.world•Actively exploited vulnerability gives extraordinary control over server fleetsEnglish
11·1 year agoThe vulnerability, carrying a severity rating of 10 out of a possible 10, resides in the AMI MegaRAC, a widely used firmware package that allows large fleets of servers to be remotely accessed and managed even when power is unavailable or the operating system isn’t functioning. These motherboard-attached microcontrollers, known as baseboard management controllers (BMCs), give extraordinary control over servers inside data centers.
It seems just for people in the US. So hopefully the rest of us will be fine.

News@lemmy.world•Tesla In 'Self-Drive Mode' Hit By Train After Turning Onto Train Tracks
27·1 year agoYes a very out landish crazy claim…people would rather blame fsd then themselves… Definitely not click bait articles. You can Google it easily if you’d like, same thing about insurance data. Though I doubt you will. It’s easier to live in the echo chamber.
I personally don’t have the bandwidth to get into fights with randos on the Internet or get emotionally hurt by every article I read on the internet. You want to live in your echo chamber please go ahead. You want to try and challenge yourself by being open to contradictory ideas or beliefs - great! Either way I’m good.

News@lemmy.world•Tesla In 'Self-Drive Mode' Hit By Train After Turning Onto Train Tracks
44·1 year agoThe cars record basically everything. Check out the insurance data. There’s a reason there isn’t an insurance premium for having an fsd enabled car. If it caused a significant amount of accidents as you claim there you would have to pay higher insurance with that option enabled. I hate to shatter your world view but these articles are click bait. The article about an idiot motorist lying about using fsd isn’t going to get the clicks or internet rage and engagement.
You could use common sense or continue to live in your echo chamber. As they say ignorance is bliss.

News@lemmy.world•Tesla In 'Self-Drive Mode' Hit By Train After Turning Onto Train Tracks
115·1 year agoI’m sorry but even if it was in fsd mode who would let their car drive onto train tracks? Almost every time these stories come up it was the person driving. But it’s easier to blame fsd then look like an idiot. I also have never met a person in real life who actually believed teslas were truly full self driving full hands off the wheel. Especially with multiple warning screens when you activate fsd telling you it’s not actually fsd. I guess let nature do its work.
The truly scary thing is plenty of people drive on train tracks all the time. Tesla or not.

71·1 year agoInstead of taking a minute to just read the entire email, they decided to go immediately to the internet to complain. Then when people explained to them multiple times what is going on they decided to argue with them instead of ya know reading the email. The internet is alive and well.

4·1 year agoYeah if you already have a lifetime pass then essentially nothing changes. They also did the right thing about giving people a pretty good heads up to purchase a lifetime pass before they raised the price.
Your users may have gotten the notice (my family didn’t) but they can ignore it if the server owner has a lifetime pass.

Technology@lemmy.world•Synology Lost the Plot with Hard Drive Locking Move - ServeTheHomeEnglish
2·1 year agoNot to say I’m not annoyed and they definitely should not be doing this except for their enterprise line. Would I buy another Synology again, no definitely not.
However most “consumers” buying a NAS are already pretty tech savvy. When this issue happened to me I googled it and found and applied the script in 15 or so minutes. Run the script essentially once a year or so when major updates come along. Hasn’t been a huge issue. The issue will be if /when they block this script or other fixes.

5·1 year agoI basically run this setup, Synology nas for storage and a nuc12 for proxmox. Things like pihole I run on both for HA. You will also have a much better experience using Plex on an Intel NUC with quick assist.
As mentioned above the helper scripts will save you a ton of time. You should definitely check them out. Proxmox allows you to easily backup and restore. So its much easier to tinker and play around without taking down the whole network.

I am aware thanks! I lived in NYC at the time. 100s (1000s?) of people have similar stories. Just don’t why this is different then any others. Is there something proving this was not just luck. That he lied?
