Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•There are only like 3,000 billionaires and they're not physically imposing people.
73·7 days agoWhat a strange thing to think. They might not be physically imposing but they sure are in many other ways.

16·9 days agoUnsurprising coming from someone who was quoted saying this on his Venezuela actions:
“MAGA loves it. MAGA loves what I’m doing. MAGA loves everything I do," Trump said. “MAGA is me. MAGA loves everything I do, and I love everything I do, too.”

21·23 days agoAnother thing to consider is quality. I’ve had a pair of Bose over ear headphones for 9 years that I bought on sale for about 200$. I treat them like crap and they keep on kicking. I’ve replaced the ear pads twice for 20$. Sometimes quality is worth factoring in too.

Uplifting News@lemmy.world•2025 felt like a disaster — but the numbers tell a very different storyEnglish
2·26 days agoStrange. I don’t have access to the posted link but this one has the same author, same post date, same article image and title however from what I can tell, has a different starting sentence: https://www.yahoo.com/news/articles/2025-felt-disaster-numbers-tell-120000268.html

8·2 months agoThough I’m generally familiar with the process of mining, I wasn’t clear how noise could be such a problem. TIL:
A single mining machine can produce sound levels of 70 to 90 decibels (dB), comparable to a vacuum cleaner or a busy street. When aggregated in large-scale operations, the noise can be heard over long distances and has led to health complaints and legal challenges from nearby residents.
I just took a picture of one of these recently! No touchy though.

Not The Onion@lemmy.world•Only Chick-fil-A vending machine in country at Georgia hospital - still closed on SundaysEnglish
29·3 months agoI like irony here that the headline focuses on the “closed on Sunday” bit rather than a vending machine provided by a company that specializes in fried chicken in a place where health is important.

Correct, apparently and unsurprisingly this is just virtue signaling.
