Linux Gaming@lemmy.world•Solved Problem with DualSense bluetooth connectionEnglish
2·3 days agoI do not have a windows install anymore. Is there a way to update it via Linux? So far I only updated the firmware of the controller when my PlayStation showed an update. So I think it should be up to date. Or is there a special firmware for Windows?
Also the controller is working perfectly. Only problem was that I needed to unplug and plug in the Bluetooth dongle everytime I restarted the PC, for the controller to connect correctly.

Linux@lemmy.ml•I think i am ready to switch from windows and need advice
1·18 days agoThis sounds like a good idea.
I started my Linux journey with Mint. Installation was fine and everything worked, but gaming performance was terrible. I think because not properly supporting my 9700 gre.
Then I installed nobara (fedora) and was really happy. Everything work smoothly. Also the gaming performance was at least as good as on windows. But the fact, that this distro is a small project of a single person I started too loog around for an alternative.
This led to me installing CashyOS (Arch). The setup was a little more complicated and I needed to install more additional packages, than on nobara. It has been a few weeks now, everything is working without much problems, but still… I somehow do not feel at home, like when running nobara.
I thought about switching back to nobara, but maybe fedora KDE is also an option…

PC Gaming@lemmy.ca•Game recommendation request: Offline "MMORPGs"English
4·22 days agoOne suggestion that comes to mind is the elder scroll’s series, morrowind in particular had a good crafting system with poition brewing and stuff like that. Do not know how oblivion is holding up, becauseI never played it much, but scyrim was a lot simpler and might not fit your description.
Another game that might scratch that itch, although in a completely different setting: the X-series. It is a giant space rpg, where you start with a small ship an can work your way up to a giant space empire (if you put in a lot of time). You can mine asteroids, trade resources, or fight pirates.

Games@lemmy.world•Xbox CEO Asha Sharma shares her gamertag — what it revealsEnglish
338·23 days agoOn the one hand I see the reason for criticism, when a person that apparently never touched a video game becomes a XBOX CEO, on the other hand does her account really read like a real one, and I think this is great. I think there is nothing easier for an Xbox CEO than to have a fake account created going back 20 years and showing thousands of hours of gaming or have somebody game for you Elon Musk style.
This reads like someone that is actually preparing for the new role she has to fill and making her own gaming experiences and listening to community feedback.
Is it as good as having someone as CEO with a long history in gaming? Probably not. But I think this might be the next best thing.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•How do you cut a cucumber so that the round slices don't roll all over and off of your cutting board?
2·28 days agoFrom personal experience I can tell that once I went for the basic knive sharpener, the mean sharpness of my knives increased significantly. Yes, the whetstone makes them sharper, but it takes so much tile that I usually used my knives far too long before I sharpened them again. Once I got some basic knives sharpener (thebthings you pull your knive through), I suddenly started to sharpen the knives the moment I noticed they became a little dull.

Open Source@lemmy.ml•HelixNotes - a local markdown note-taking app (Rust + Tauri, AGPL-3.0)
1·30 days agoAccording to the page it supports note linking. Isn’t obsidian also free as long as you are not using the sync service?
At the moment I am using Anytype, but am looking into obsidian. Lately anytypes development feels kind of strange. They are more an more moving from a note app to a collaboration app. And I wonder how long the note taking will be unaffected by it. So obisidian is becoming more and more interesting, because of the independent markdown format…
Thank you for sharing your layout. It was a good starting point. I changed some things arond a bit and arrived at the following layout. I find it good for writing in german, but in english there are still some challenges like ou or oo that are kind of slow…

Yeah I also struggle with the layouts. I feel like they are not optimal for German, even the German layout. Most of the letters that often come in pairs like mm or ll are locked behind swipe gestures, which makes it really hard to type them fast. I get, why the most common letters are in the top layer, but I think swiping twice the same letter takes so much more time than swiping a common letter once… Maybe I have to adjust it a little. As far as I understand it is possible to edit the layouts in the app.

Games@lemmy.world•Gothic 1 Remake | Release Date Trailer (June 5th)English
10·1 month agoBack when the original released it was a great RPG with a great story and a world that felt alive, compared to most other RPG that were on the market. The world was open to explore from the begining without any safeguards to run into strong monsters, which helped the emersion a lot. The controls were strange, but worked somehow, when you got used to it. Combat was challenging and the leveling was rewarding, because you got notably stronger. I hope the remake is good and translates these strength into the modern age.

Technology@beehaw.org•Western Digital details 14-platter 3.5-inch HAMR HDD designs with 140 TB and beyond
37·1 month agoI find it still mind blowing that HDD still improves the storage density to this day. Especially that something like HAMR works reliably and fast feels kind of crazy.
If you are talking about the golden knight, you meet after emerging from the dungeon: yeah, this one is really hard and you can skip him until much later.
There is a small tutorial area, that is easily missed. After spawning into a new game, there is a big hole in the ground, jump down there (I think there is a guy or a message telling you to do it) and you learn the basics about fighting and other mechanics. Also with an adequately challenging mini boss at the end.

World News@lemmy.world•Merz is right to reject Germany’s nuclear phase-out, IEA chief saysEnglish
8·1 month agoMaybe in hindsight it would have been better to have kept the nuclear power running, phasing out coal first and limit our CO2 emissions. (Who am I kidding, we would still emit the same amount of CO2, because we would have phased out coal already and Germany is only 2% of the problem…) But maybe we avoided fallout in central Europe and noone will know, which version of the past we decided against.
