I actually feel like they nailed the voice acting. I think we just have 30 years of nostalgia for how the lines were delivered in the original. The new one tries to keep the spirit of the original, while giving it a new coat of paint.

I’ve done several full playthroughs on all routes at this point. I think it’s fantastic as a whole. The levels have all the fun of the original but it feels a little tuned to feel modern. I played the original and this one back to back to compare. The new one definitely feels tighter and smoother on aiming and movement. The challenge mode additions are super fun if you are the kind of person who enjoys replaying levels over and over to improve your score. Expert mode is also a fun addition that helps the levels feel fresh. It scratches the itch I’ve had for new Starfox for a decade, if only a little bit. The multiplayer is also great, with the only real problem being that it only has 3 maps. It even has a bot mode for offline players. I also have come around completely on the art style and voice acting. I like the fact that Starfox is actually portrayed as the mercenary band they are, rather than just doing good for the sake of being good. Feels like gaming in the 90’s again, campy dialogue and all. Also it’s probably the best looking game on Switch. The price point is a bit high for what it is, but ultimately I’m happy with my purchase. For me, this is the definitive Starfox experience. I hope they are able to use this as a springboard to revitalize the series going forward.

Games@lemmy.world•Is the Switch 2 worth it or a waste of money?English
4·3 days agoI love the Switch 2 and MKW has been the single biggest disappointment as far as exclusives go. I genuinely think MK8 is better. But there are several other exclusives that are much better at justifying a Switch 2 purchase. Pokopia, DK, and Kirby Air Riders just to name a few.

Games@lemmy.world•Is the Switch 2 worth it or a waste of money?English
4·3 days agoI love it, I’ve played mine pretty much daily since launch. The exclusives have ranged from good to great for me so I’m getting a lot out of it. It’s better than the Switch 1 in basically every way unless you have an OLED. The Switch 2 editions of games feel pretty substantial compared to Switch 1 performance, most notably BOTW and TOTK. More and more companies are making Switch 2 versions of 3rd party games for it as well which is nice. If you’re gonna play a lot of stuff on it, it’s worth it. If you want to play it more casually like a lot of folks did with like a Switch lite, that’s a lot harder to recommend. I will say that if you like cozy style games or really enjoy old Pokemon, Pokopia is so good it almost makes it worth it on it’s own.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•How do I get the damn cat to understand I can feed myself?
979·11 days agoIt’s not so much that they think you’re incapable of hunting. It’s moreso that they just like you and bring gifts. However, like others have said in here, cats absolutely should not be let outside and there is a ton of research that backs that up. The best solution is to educate your friend on how damaging their behavior is to the environment as well as how it puts their cat in danger as well. I know many people in the veterinary field and they all agree that cats should not be let outside unless they are on a harness.
I wish I could, but that price is way too high for me to justify it. If the price ever comes down I would be happy to see about getting one. I think at that price point it’s only really accessible to enthusiasts with a lot of disposable income. There were a lot of more casual gamers that were interested in the machine before the price. They were able to get a deck at a $300-400 mark and they were interested to see what the Steam Machine would be offered at. But I am certain at this price that none of those people are going to get one. I’m sure the price is due to AI fucking everyone and not because Valve just wants to squeeze out money. But I think the result of this is that it’s not going to be the widespread go-to option for a lot of gamers. It definitely hurt it’s chances with a ton of potential customers.

Games@lemmy.world•Pre-orders for Grand Theft Auto VI will officially begin on June 25English
16·17 days agoHonestly, seeing as how Rockstar turned GTA 5 into a microtransaction machine after it was already a $60 game, I am so wary of buying it that I might just skip out entirely. I’m not looking to fund Rockstar’s next decade and a half with a single higher price game and whatever the new Shark Cards are.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•How would you feel modern medicine advanced to the point where doctors believed it was too arduous to try and fight diseases and instead would replace people with healthy copies?
15·23 days agoThis is a minor plot point in Subnautica 2. Personally, I think that since you’d be reuploading a copy of your psyche, the “you” that currently exists would still die. The copy may retain the memories and seem functionally identical to you. But I still think the “you” that exists in your head would cease to exist after a reupload. For that reason, I don’t like the idea.

Games@lemmy.world•What’s your favorite video game that most people didn’t like ??English
5·1 month agoI love all 3 main series Fable games. I know many people like 1 or 2, but usually I see a lot of people shitting on 3. Each one is good in different ways, but I will admit that 1 and 2 are definitely better than 3.
Apples to oranges. A PB&J is directly referring to peanut butter and jelly. In a similar vein, if I order a BLT and it comes with banana, lemon, and tofu instead of bacon, lettuce, and tomato, I would call it a pretty shitty BLT.
I mean, it’s objectively not considering it’s called a peanut butter and jelly sandwich.
I have never once seen Katherine shortened to Karen. I’ve only ever seen it shortened to Katie or Kat. Any Karens I’ve seen, it’s always been a standalone name.

Games@lemmy.world•Videogame pirates tell other pirates to shut up about it after Subnautica 2 developers are taunted with illicit copiesEnglish
1430·2 months agoI know lemmy is gonna downvote for this because way too many people on here think piracy is justified. But I think if you pirate a new game, you’re an asshole. It’s one thing if you are downloading an old game for a system that’s no longer supported, or maybe it’s not even sold anymore. But if you try to justify stealing a new game because you have beef with it’s publisher, you’re shitty. That’s like saying if you were a low level employee at Amazon or Wal-mart, that it would be fair game if people stole from you just because of your job. So many people work on video games, it’s important not to see them as some faceless evil company. If you want new games to be made, they need to make money. And the people who work hard every day to create amazing games deserve your purchase.
I mean they directly referenced that in the direct. This remake is the plan unfortunately. Maybe we’ll actually get a new Starfox game in 2036.
I have wanted a new Starfox game for so long. I wanted to be excited about this, but why are they remaking it AGAIN?!? 4 of the 7 Starfox games are the same fucking game! When people said they wanted a new Starfox game they meant they wanted a NEW Starfox game. If they wanted to do just a visual upgrade they could have just tweaked Zero and released it on Switch. I mean hell at least that game had new content. The franchise has so much potential and its so frustrating to see Nintendo be completely unable to innovate on this series. Fucking Namco managed to do a decent job for fucks sake. This is the only franchise of theirs that they are just completely incapable of creating something new for and its honestly baffling.

I actually think that line is perfect. It’s right at the very start of the game and it’s establishing the character personalities to the player who may or may not be familiar with these characters. As the team flies in Slippy mentions something about needing to fine tune his systems check. Peppy calls out an enemy to Slippy, who has decided to take this terrible moment to fine tune his equipment. So he calls out to Fox to cover him, showing how he is such a detail oriented gear head that he finds it more important to fine tune equipment than to avoid getting shot. It shows he loves his work, but is a careless liability. Right at the start of the game. It even ties back in later when Falco is getting chased. He says something is wrong with his G-diffuser, even though in the intro he shrugged off the systems check and said everything was fine. So he takes a little damage, that’s when Slippy mocks him with “that’s why you don’t rush a systems check” reinforcing to himself that he was right. I think it’s a good little back and forth piece of writing that deserves a little more context than just the single line. All of it together really tells the player all they need to know about the members of the team in just the first level.
