I definitely miss the niche hobby/interest-specific subs here

Same, I lurk and have appealed numerous times. No response whatsoever. Fuckers.

I did that for a while, they got me though. Which vpn are you employing?
Unless the dog and cats are the staff

I can’t comment on your favorites of the year so far but note most of the authors on your reply being female, that’s awesome.
As far as Narnia I haven’t read those books since I was child in the 70s and they impacted me greatly. Last year I did read the novella Put Away Your Childish Things by Adrian Tchaikovsy and it’s connected to Narnia, loved it. AT is phenomenal, enjoy Children of Time my friend. I love how many new AT readers CoT has reigned in. Have you read anything by him?

I honestly get through the first 1/4 of A Desolation Called Peace , the main character was such a turn off for me, just could not relate. I noped it, dnf.

Both great series, I’ve been reading Bobiverse for years and tore through DCC last year, I haven’t read the latest but look forward to it.

Station Eleven is wonderful, the show is definitely worth watching as well, it veers a bit but captures it really well.
On of my other favorite series I read last year is Margaret Atwood’s Maddaddam trilogy, I was blown away by it. Based on what you’ve shared I think you’d like it.

I enjoyed The Murderbot Diaries more than I anticipated, haven’t read Platform Decay yet but will soon.
Have you seen the show? I was a bit ;let down by it but still hopeful for what they could do.

The City & The City is really good, read that after Embassytown, planning to read Krakenn as next CM although may go straight to The Scar, book 2 of Perdido Street Station. PSS is quintessential steampunk on overdrive, so well written. I liked Embassytown for many reasons, the original concepts for certain but prose was poetic and specifically intelligent, I needed to refer to my dictionary app on almost every page. And it was clear he wasn’t just trying to use big original words, the verbiage was very specific and many of the words encompassed multiple concepts that could only be expressed through his chosen vocabulary.
Blindsight is great, really fun and weird. I definitely suggest Shroud by AT, it’s got commonalities to Blindsight and is one of favorite novels by him.

That’s my TBR list for sure. Is that current or favorite?
I enjoyed them while reading, it was fast-paced storytelling and fun series to read.
I’d never heard the YA category until a few years after reading, never read Hunger Games but after knowing genre I was like, yeah that was YA.
It’s a good read but not in my top ten suggested sci-fi series.

The war helped as a distraction but the primary reason is the media being owned by the Epstein Oligarchy.
State media now runs the news cycles.

Kava is wonderful and potent when brewed traditionally

Unsure how much better ebay and etsy are but I often use amazon to research products and either find a way to direct order or use ebay instead.
One of my hobbies is fucking amazon over. Often I’ll order from both amazon and ebay (or direct from manufacturer), the item comes from amazon in two days and start using it, when the same item comes from ebay I’ll return the used one back to amazon and keep the ebay bought one.
edit: another way to fuck amazon over is to find the item used (cheaper) on ebay, buy it and order same one new from amazon, hold onto for few weeks and send the used one back to amazon. Fuck them entirely.
I only do these with items shipping from amazon warehouses, not private sellers.
I don’t know Hal…ima banned Redfugee and I really do miss some specific subs. I’d like to see us grow just big enough to be what Reddit was (as far as niche communities) during its first 5-10 years.
