News@lemmy.world•California becomes first state to offer health insurance to all undocumented immigrants
51·2 years agoYou’re so close. It’s true. Why give them when we don’t have it covered for ourselves.
You hint on a lot of other issues too, like homelessness and drug programs.
I’ll say this, we do not have an issue with funding. For example we can look at other countries that do have proper funding for these programs and their gdp is nowhere near what the US generates. And yet we struggle!?
We have problems that we can’t solve alone but we are indoctrinated into thinking that we can.
We don’t need to throw this money away, but we do. Somebody will get paid a boat load of money and some poor immigrant will receive substandard healthcare. All this is working as intended and someone in 50 years will ask the same question.

I’ll never understand fanboys that fawn over subs. Why give yourself extra work? Anime is the perfect medium for dub.
I understand that you can lose meaning in translation but most fans do not understand Japanese so why?!?

So the patron not only pays for the food/service, but there’s a separate fee to pay for ALL employees living wages??
If this trend continues the customers will end up making the food too!? Lol, I would talk to the manager for sure.

World News@lemmy.world•Obama says people need to acknowledge complexity of Israel-Palestinian conflict to move forwardEnglish
2·2 years agoYou’re right. What an unpredictable reaction by Hamas. They really went too far that time. How could they not appreciate what those concert goers were doing for them?! They really were about to turn a corner towards peace. Israel was 🤏🏿 from lifting the apartheid but forget it now! All that work out the window coz of what Hamas did October 7. Sorry Palestine, you really messed up this time.
Thank you kind stranger for sparing some wisdom and making me see the light. Ahh thanka youuu

World News@lemmy.world•Obama says people need to acknowledge complexity of Israel-Palestinian conflict to move forwardEnglish
55·2 years agoIt feels like Israel uses its own population as a buffer between the IDF and hamas. That and the sheer audacity to have a concert right next to Gaza was a recipe for disaster that Israel took advantage of for its own ambitions. It’s certainly short sighted to think Israel and the US can get rid of hamas. The US should have learned this lesson in Iraq when they created a vacuum after they removed sadam. Palestine definitely has the world’s favor right now and hamas would be smart to play on that

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•How do you call someone born in the US besides "American"?
1·2 years agoThat was a rhetorical question about south America. I know the regions and I know what the continents are. I don’t need you to explain them to me. Is that all you were trying to say or do you have another point?

News@lemmy.world•Republican Jim Jordan's bid for speaker falling short in US House
15·2 years agoBut that is not the definition of playing devil’s advocate. You’re technically correct when you play devil’s advocate. The point is abscond the truth.
‘someone who pretends, in an argument or discussion, to be against an idea or plan that a lot of people support, in order to make people discuss and consider it in more detail:’
When I hear someone say Jim Jordan is a pedo I say “why yes, he is.” Coz he’s complicit and even worse, never took accountability.
Did Hitler gas all 6 million jews? " Well, to be fair…"
Do you see how obnoxious you guys sound. We all know the truth. And the truth is Jim Jordan is complicit. If the world was objective, Jordan would’ve faced time for the crimes. EVEN THOUGH HE DIDN’T HE DO IT!But the world doesn’t work that way.
You don’t defend that. Ever.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•How do you call someone born in the US besides "American"?
12·2 years agoI’m sorry, I thought you were talking about the regions that matter. We already knew Latin Americans refer to it as one. Unfortunately, you have to convince Americans to change their adjective to whatever it is latinos prefer. Good luck with that.
Edit: if my point wasn’t clear enough, it doesn’t matter what romance language speaking countries call the Americas (North and South). You can see that from the same article you cherry picked the info you copied and paste above

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•How do you call someone born in the US besides "American"?
32·2 years agoDo South and Central American words not exist in spanish? Soy de Sudamérica. Soy de Centroamérica. As the other comment said, this question is not ambiguous at all. And I know why people get mad, they hate the US, which I understand because they’re assholes. No one will deny it. Ask any self respecting american and they will agree.
But with all due respect, this is a dumb ass question. Respectfully.

The state tells you murder is illegal. Except when the state does it. You can’t expect people to follow, “do what I say, not what I do.”
It’s cruel, it’s a reflection of our morals. The death penalty is not a deterrent for murder. The death penalty is hypocrisy. The death penalty is for an unserious society.
But the death penalty is just a symptom of a greater chronic illness we suffer from. We’ll just continue to kill ourselves until we find a cure for the disease.
Edit: I see many do not like my wording for state sanctioned murder. If you are reading this and don’t understand, imagine if listening to George Bush (can’t remember which) tell the tv America doesn’t negotiate with terrorists. He’s drawing a moral line in the sand with terrorism. That’s my point. We need to figure out where our moral line in the sand is with the death penalty, because right now it’s all over the place. Do I think outlawing the death penalty will solve our societal woes? No, I do not. The people will demand it until it is reinstated. For me I ask what is the purpose of the death penalty? Does it serve a greater good for a society? Obviously it does not. Americans are murdered all the time, so it serves no purpose.
