I know it’s a trilogy, which is not what you’re looking for, but since there is not much here I thought I’d throw it in anyway. Prince of Thorns is great grimdark. Sadly I think a lot of fantasy fiction is trilogies, so might be hard to find. Somehow a different Mark Lawrence book is on that article you linked, but not this one? That’s insanity. Lawrence is one of my favorite authors.

It varies by location. The one near my house can hardly be bothered to fill the cup. One like an hour away I used to go to for work fills half the freaking bag.

News@lemmy.world•User Clip: Trump admits they rigged the election - C-SpanEnglish
311·1 year agoI hate dictator Trump as much as the next guy, but what he’s saying here is ‘they rigged the election in 2020, but now that means I get to host the Olympics during this term’. He’s just keeping up the lie about how he lost to Biden
Pricing is definitely GPD’s issue, but yes hardware issues as well. I have a Win Max 2, and it was neat at the time, but it costs way more than a Steamdeck and really isn’t as powerful. When you play a game on it it runs so hot and the fans are like a jet engine. I pretty much use it as tiny laptop these days and use the Steamdeck for any real handheld gaming.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•How to export 2FA from Authy into another service such as Bitwarden?English
4·1 year agoSadly this is probably impossible at this point. Before their whole fiasco discontinuing the desktop app there was a procedure I did where I was able to download a super old version of the desktop app and use Chrome to get into the dev interface (or something like that) of the app, then use a script someone made to export everything. Maybe if you search around you can find some way to do this with the mobile app, but I am not optimistic.

Books@lemmy.world•What book(s) are you currently reading or listening? December 10English
7·1 year agoOne of my favorite things about the long Sanderson books is that even though they are SO LONG, they are paced so well that I never felt like it was too long. All the building up in the middle is important and enjoyable (at least to me), and it all wraps up so quickly and nicely at the end of every book.

5·1 year agoMy re-read for Stormlight Archive has been taking longer than I figured it would, so I just started Rhythm of War this morning. I even got Wind and Truth delivered a day early, but didn’t get to start it lol.

PC Gaming@lemmy.ca•As Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 Steam Reviews Collapse to ‘Overwhelmingly Negative,’ Dev Admits It ‘Completely Underestimated’ Excitement for the Game - IGNEnglish
36·1 year agoA completely ridiculous lie on their part. What sane person would give /Microsoft/ any benefit of the doubt whatsoever? (nobody here so far, just saying in general) Microsoft owns insane cloud infrastructure and are also the publishers of the game. If there’s a problem, it’s one they chose not to address, not one that was simply “underestimated”.
This is funny, but I think stereotypical vampire lore still stands. I think it’s only direct sunlight that is an issue. If a vampire stands in a room with an open window, but off to the side, they’re generally considered fine. If light reflected off a wall is ok then why is the moon not?
I really really like this game, but is it ready for 1.0? Last I played a few months ago the simulation felt…lacking. The structure seems there, but things like NPCs walking around their apartments at all hours of the night make things difficult, as an example.

Technology@lemmy.world•Microsoft points finger at the EU for not being able to lock down WindowsEnglish
820·2 years agoI actually agree, I own my computer / OS and I should be able to do what you’re saying (install and break things). But Microsoft is a trillion dollar multi national corporation and I am certainly going to give them grief about this because I owe them less than nothing, let alone any good will.

News@lemmy.world•A million more U.S. workers can now get overtime pay: 'Most employers absolutely do want to get this right'English
6·2 years agoI’m sorry, but I think I disagree. I interpreted your point as “Employers care, you just have to hold them accountable”. I don’t think that is the attitude of companies who want to do things the right way. If workers have more rights than they know, and employers are aware of it, then I do not think that’s an mistake, that’s exploitation.

News@lemmy.world•A million more U.S. workers can now get overtime pay: 'Most employers absolutely do want to get this right'English
57·2 years agoDO most employers want to get this right? Based on the fact that wage theft is the largest form of theft even with everything else combined, I think that’s either a lie or a stupid thing to say.
Also, I just don’t understand under what circumstances anyone should be exempt from overtime. Is there some group of people who are less deserving of getting paid for their time that I am unaware of? Even (shudder) managers should probably get paid.
I believe this does not work for Home. You can bypass it in Pro like this though. Unless something has changed I am not aware of.

3·2 years agoThat’s awesome! I do really like Ice, but Ancestor is my favorite series too! I think I mostly liked it because of the “fan service” regarding going back to the convent, and all the stuff surrounding that. I am also a sucker for characters like Erris who need to figure out their humanity. I am very jealous of your signed copy :)

3·2 years agoFavorite was a tie between Tress and Yumi. I really liked the whole “Princess Bride” vibe from Tress, and Yumi was just cute and cheesy. Followed by Sunlit Man and then Frugal Wizard. I loved them all though! You?

I have absolutely no evidence of this, but my first thought was “I wonder if this is some protest at how fucking dumb this all is”
