Canada@lemmy.ca•ANALYSIS | Why the Supreme Court challenge of Quebec's secularism law matters to the whole country | CBC News
1·4 months agoThis law isn’t targeting minorities even though minorities disproportionately represent the religiously active population. I think there is a difference to be made between banning the people themselves and banning the preaching of their ideology while working a government job. Race and country of origine have nothing to do with whether a person works for the government , but their personal values do. It is a fact that religion divides people more than anything else and whether we agree with this bill or not, its not unreasonable to want better social cohesion.

Canada@lemmy.ca•ANALYSIS | Why the Supreme Court challenge of Quebec's secularism law matters to the whole country | CBC News
4·4 months agoYes, this Court challenge certainly matters to the whole country because its challenging the very basis this federation was built upon. Canada is great because it is essentially 10 individual states unified under a single flag, easing economic and military collaboration on the global stage while our internal affairs can be flexible and accommodate differently accross the VAST land Canada covers. So no, it is not the federal government’s business.

1·5 months agoI don’t think i was very clear. What i meant to say is that the type of people to find and engage in niche online communities that relate to tech are going to be significantly more likely to use an operating system different than the average person, thus Lemmy users, who often advocate for freer consumer technology as the existence of this platform is mostly a protest against major social media sites. These consumer freedom tech communities will always be biased towards Linux and could create circlejerks where we convince eachother we are on the right side of things. Last asterisk, i know most users here are still windows or mac users. But instead of Linux users being 2% of the community like in the real world, we could be 25% instead, thus greatly exaggerating real life support.

1·6 months agoThe Kremlin has already declared its support for US annexation of Greenland. Russia already knows the US has military bases in Greenland and both are NATO countries. Russia benefits more from the NATO collapse that would follow so they can freely swing at Europe.

I personally have been making sure to use Shopify and Shop Pay as much as possible to avoid american companies. As much as i know the CEO is a MAGAt himself, the American alternatives are all just as bad but at least it’s an investment in Canadian jobs and the Canadian e-commerce sector.
Fuck. Does that mean Russian oil is going to be more competitive again? aaaaaaaa
