Thank you! I’m already familiar with REST apis, since that’s what I work on normally, so hopefully the learning experience will be smooth. Where can I find the dev matrix chat?

First off, thank you for working on improving lemmy, it is greatly appreciated. How does one go about helping work on lemmy? I’m a software engineer myself, and I’m looking to provide help during down of my free time. I’m not the most familiar in Rust, but it’s on my summer bucket list

Technology@beehaw.org•Does anyone use Shortcuts on your Apple device? If so, what are you using?
1·3 years agoI have a shortcut that turns on my tv’s in the morning (Apple TV), switches them to Spotify, and plays a logo music playlist for me. It lets me have music playing throughout my house as I’m waking up making breakfast

Programming@beehaw.org•Rust fact vs. fiction: 5 Insights from Google's Rust journey in 2022
2·3 years agoI’m starting to try and learn it right now, and it really doesn’t seem that bad. To be fair I’m mostly going through books and documentation to make sure I understand the differences before I jump in. Learning some of the specific features of the language doesn’t seem too bad either

Gaming@beehaw.org•What's the age cut off for socially acceptable gamingEnglish
2·3 years agoI take it more as “their opinion doesn’t matter to me since I’m still having fun”. I definitely get the magic leaving though, as I don’t play as grind heavy games as I used to. I enjoy more story driven games now though. As long as you still get your stuff done and don’t let it become an obsession, gaming is a valid hobby

1·3 years agoHuh that’s a pretty solid looking book. I did a quick glance through the chapter list online, and there is a fair amount of content in that. A solid book like that may be good for me to check out as well

Gaming@beehaw.org•Witcher 3 DLC: HoS / BaW - Which is better?
2·3 years agoPersonally I think the soundtrack for HoS was better too. GoD’s theme is a banger of a song, and I love the etherealness of the soundtrack
You don’t need to worry about your skill compared to other people. Just learn at your own pace and have fun with it! There will be a moment when stuff starts to click.
Plus code competitions are a completely different beast compared to regular coding. A lot of those are just practice and memorization more than anything

Linux@lemmy.ml•I often read that (docker) containers are not good for security. What are secure methods of creating secure isolated environments to run questionable programs in?
1·3 years agoDang, that’s wild. there is some insane malware out there

0·3 years agoHow come no speakers? Is it to prevent your ears from being blasted just in case, or is there malware that can be transmitted through audio?
Maybe I’ll give POP a try next. Apt is just so damn good. I can’t escape it lol

Technology@beehaw.org•Seriously, what's up with big sites literally dying as we speak?English
0·3 years agoIt’s one of those “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” kind of changes. It’s just a weird one to suddenly push onto a platform, especially when the previous solution is better in every single way

Technology@beehaw.org•Seriously, what's up with big sites literally dying as we speak?
0·3 years agoThey are changing the way usernames are being handled. Instead of letting them be whatever you want with the identifying tag after it, they are requiring it to be a unique username

I’m currently using pop os with an etc 3070, and I haven’t noticed any major issues. I had some weird glitches on fedora because they use the open source driver by default, but using the proprietary Nvidia driver is totally usable. I even got ray tracing working on cyberpunk 2077
