I had to read the headline several times to figure out:
A Why the hair salon was directing its trans clients to pet its groomers
B Why that direction was illegal
I liked my first interpretation better, tbh.

Do these idiots think all trans people are non-binary? Transphobes are seriously the dumbest motherfuckers I swear.
Generally speaking you have to be pretty dumb to be a bigot.
Ignorance and isolation can do that even to smart people. If you’re stuck in a bubble, it can be hard to even see a reason to step out.
I used to hold to some kind of biological essentalism. It seemed obvious to me that people with male physique should be considered male, people with female physique female and while I saw no problem with wanting to get their phsyique surgically and hormonally altered and was on board with respecting the wishes of people on the way to that, I (privately) believed that people weren’t “a real {gender}” until they got that “switch”. NBs, of course, were firmly outside that binary view.
Without anyone around to actually challenge that biological premise, I don’t really see how I could have broken out of it on my own. I also don’t think being smart is a prerequisite for being respectful. It’s just that I grew up with certain preconceptions and never had a reason to challenge them until someone close to me came out.
It’s the confrontation with the unfamiliar and how you handle it that separates tolerance from bigotry, but dumb people can be respectful just as smart people can be narrow-minded.
They think that having a dick means your identity is a man, so if you then say “I identify as a woman” you’re really saying you’re both.
Until recently, gender has not been primarily about self-identity for a long time (at least in Western culture, I don’t want to overgeneralise) so this kind of thinking isn’t that surprising.

Yes, because the media they consume isn’t about educating them, it’s about ensuring they’ll be a piece of shit to whatever target they’re told to hate. The specifics aren’t part of the direction, in fact it’s about muddying the waters as much as possible. They targeted the Epstein Files so much that a chunk of MAGA even started to turn against their handlers because of it. Not nearly enough of them, but enough that they’re dealing with internal fighting about it. Those Epstein waters weren’t muddy enough.
Well, to be fair, most people who have an issue with trans/gay people are the dumbest motherfuckers… so, yeah, seems to track.

Good praxis to avoid any kind of TERF or bigot in th9se industries because i swear theyre always the salon owners or stylists who will give you shitty sexisy unsolicited opinions on your aesthetic and will alienate their clients and end up burning out because people who arent also assholes dont like that
Like ive met these people and the bigotry is never in a vaccuum without other dogshit opinions AND its just stupid as a business owner to turn away a paying customer.
I worry about getting a shit haircut from a stylist who gives me one on purpose.
I guess it’s why I haven’t been to a salon in a long, long time, even though I could benefit from it.
I promise you a good stylist worth their salt would be devastated to give you a bad haircut even just accidentally… we WANT people to like our work, we want you to come back. Your hair looking good is our portfolio and word of mouth is our bread and butter. Plus a shitload of us are LGBTQ+ or allies anyways… hair is hair is hair regardless of who it is on and we are in the business of affirmation
For the record open invitation to anyone here if they want to send advice requests or ask if a style will suit them. A lot of us get into this business because making you feel good makes us feel good. Nothing makes me happier than knowing i made someone feel good about themselves.

Reverse the thinking. Adults don’t have views like conservative bigots.
Unfortunately wishful thinking. Humanity has demonstrated time and again that bigotry comes very naturally to its adult population who then teach it to their children.

Beyond the obvious moral problems with discrimination (which are well covered here) this is just bad business. Profit has no gender identity, and she’s undoubtedly driving away cis customers who are sympathetic to trans rights as well.
Arguably getting penalized by the state might be good for her business in the short term by focusing the transphobe outrage cycle on her, but how long will that last?
The business is now closed and there are many bad reviews on Google maps.
Sadly, she may also pickup more business from bigots like herself who want to support her stand.

Definitely possible, but the original post happened in 2023. The story already died once, and it’s only back in the news cycle because of the MCRC’s ruling. She probably will get a fresh bump in gofundme donations or whatever from bigots nationwide, but I seriously doubt that’ll last. They get bored pretty quick. As far as picking up clients as bigoted as she is, Traverse City is a tourist town that went for Biden in 2024. She got condemned by the mayor and the backlash was so bad she privated her Insta.

Am I a bad person when my first thought when I read the title was that this hilarious? Imagine you get directed to another parlour, drive over there and see it’s a pet groomer. I would just laugh at how cartoonishly evil that was. It’s like me going to a therapist and he directs me to an euthanasia clinic. I’d think that would just be funny, and since I’m already there can’t hurt to check it out.
Yeah hopefully people would feel that way. But thinking about it more some of these people are probably pretty sensitive about their bodies and how they look already. I think I would feel hurt or humiliated. Those aren’t nice feelings. But that’s just how the world is. Some people are just shitty and it sucks
