    Kool Desktop Environment

KDE is not an acronym anymore, but back when it was only a DE and not a big FOSS dev organization, that’s what it stood for

I thought it was a self-referring acronym and stood for K Desktop Environment? Anyway it was a reference to CDE, the Common Desktop Environment of SUN, HP and a couple of other commercial Unices.

And then she seems to have removed it when talking, which is probably when she knows it won’t look as good.

KDE also has a pretty good VSCode alternative, KATE. You can actually disable the AI agent, takes up much less resources, only thing it lacks is a DAB plugin, which I’m working on the sides.

Kate has an AI agent now?

Been using it daily for years, never seen a hint of that. Maybe it’s just because I haven’t updated to the very latest version.

It’s almost on par with VSCode nowadays, and that little loss of a few plugins worth it for the exchange of less resource usage, and not trying its best to force you to do vibe coding.

Yeah, I think it’s more descriptive than trans-woman. I always got confused whether trans-woman meant someone transitioning to or away from being a woman. But I still include the word now, because maybe other people are offended otherwise. Turns out about 13 people are still proxy-offended by it though. So you just can’t do it right.

              Assigned Male At Birth

When used in the context of gender dysphoria, it emphasises that the gender the person is dysphoric about isn’t a fixed trait (“born male”) but rather a property that has been assigned to them and can be rectified. It also conveniently avoids mentioning physical traits and sidesteps the complexity of Intersex people that don’t neatly fit the male/female dichotomy but usually get assigned one or the other anyway.

And finally, it’s just a convenient and pronounceable shorthand.

Its counterpart is AFAB, Assigned Female At Birth. Neither has anything to do with ACAB.

It’s originally pronounced “cute” as that also prevents confusion with QT (Apple QuickTime).
Due to everyone around me (physically) calling it Q.T., I have picked that up too. And then companies creating JDs write it down as QT, making me cringe every time.
Thankfully, QuickTime is mostly not in use, meaning that anyone really posting for it would most probably use its full form, so I can know that Qt is referring to Qt.
