The reason is that doctors and pharmaceutical companies are also for profit, meaning they make money selling you treatments. This puts them in a position to use your condition to exploit both you and the company. The insurance company is balancing the cost of your preferred treatment versus the cost of other treatment and the benefits. You can work with your doctor to build a documented record of attempting to lose weight- see a nutritionist, start seeing a therapist for your food addiction, start going to weight loss meetings, exercise therapy for the morbidly obese, etc. These will also be helpful by themselves, because those drugs are only temporary. Like weight loss surgery, people regain the weight when they don’t do the work to address the underlying issue.

9 hours of chilling for 1 hour of bettering myself. Gotta feel rested.
I work 65 hours a week but its a fine job
Oh fuck that. If I worked 65 hours a week, no way in hell would I worry about bettering myself during the workweek. Maybe an hour or 2 on the weekend.

kids in their 20s can literally rent a room in a furnished house with a bunch of other 20 year olds. there are jobs in tourism that will give housing and let you experience amazing destinations that our grandparents would’ve had to save their whole lives to be able to see. like yes, it will require grit, compromise, hard work- but the rewards are so much better than sitting around your hometown thinking you have no way to get out. You do! You just have to be willing to try, willing to learn, and willing to fail.

the stakes of moving will never be lower than in your early 20s. one of my regrets is definitely not taking more risks, because worst case scenario I literally would’ve just moved back home without any judgement. obviously that’s not everyone’s situation, but it is the average American in their early 20’s situation.

Well, I don’t live in a place like that, so there’s that. Consider moving to a better city for young people for a few years.

higher barrier of entry = a higher % of the posts are made by intelligent people.
obviously it’s still massively outweighed by the stupid shit, I’m just saying I see it more than I saw it on reddit.

I only remember one because it was a shot gun layout. Kitchen-living room-mom’s bedroom-my bedroom all in a straight line. Super inconvenient because I had to go past her room every time. The other places I lived were bigger, so I don’t remember them exactly.
got any recommendations?

I know we liked to call it “the world wide” web, but realistically the owners and operators of websites are individuals, people who live in a nation-state and are subject to their society’s rules. Although American capitalists really tried, it’s not fair to expect one website to serve the entire world’s needs or be a truly global public service. If we want that, we’d need to collaborate at the UN to make it happen.
the crazy part is, the meat industry is only staying afloat because of billions in subsidies! meanwhile vegetables get basically no subsidies at all, just limitations on the amount a farm can produce. you can see the cost of that policy decision in our health outcomes.

Silksong it’s a great game but way too hard for me. :(

You weren’t great. She brought an issue to you and instead of resolving it or offering any solution, you told her to stop talking about it and act happy like she did before. But you know, ultimately she is going to have to figure out that some people won’t be there for her the way she wants, and the only solution to that is to look for the right person.
You’d like not eating them. That’s the take.

if you stopped eating animal products, you’d actually like it.

I saw a post recommending lemmy.zip for beginners, and, while it doesn’t cater to my interests at all, it is a casual, well run, and nicely designed instance. I didn’t understand what an instance was, but now I like the design of blorp.lemmy.zip

You know what you do? You go “Oh, hating each other has wrought nothing but suffering on both of our people, so we’re going to try to commit to working together now.” Together. Both sides. To create a joint vision of peace and prosperity. And that would mean Israel will have to return some property, address Palestinian poverty, desegregate the schools, etc.

no, if they did nothing, that’d be signaling that they want others to attack them. because there’s no consequence. they already gave a warning strike last time- to indicate that they will strike back when they are hit. .

I would just mind my business . If he occasionally needs to use a trash can or whatever, I’m not causing any trouble. No reason to assume the worst, but if he starts causing trouble, yeah moving would be the only solution there.
I am up to LJ, and honestly it was not like I rq the boss. It was reasonably slow and I felt like I could learn it. I just put it down at the end of a session, never picked it back up, and never wanted to pick it back up.
