  • I got a rental once, and it had roll down windows. No biggie, I grew up with a not dirt poor but very frugal family (no allowance, often no lunch money but I was never starving or anything).

I got on the highway and realized it didn’t have cruise control and nearly lost my fucking mind. I think I’d take cruise control over A/C even.

Helium is one of those things I don’t really care about. I could tell you I never liked balloons because of their impact on the environment, and that would be true, especially with ones getting released into the air. However I also have a really selfish reason, and that was cleaning them up. I never really liked water balloons for the same reasons, and I’m so happy I haven’t been around much confetti.

  • Nintendo will always care, especially since you can easily currently install emulators on stem deck, and I seriously doubt it would be impossible to install those on steam machine. Now aside from the emulation stuff, having another contender in the console market may always affect each of the companies simply because not everyone can afford all the consoles. Growing up the parents who raised me didn’t buy us a single console, so my first consoles were from the parent who only visited (divorce), in lieu of child support payments, and we generally only had one at a time until we started buying them ourselves.

If you’re on a limited budget, even with kids, you may only choose 1 or two consoles, and your choice may be the most “comprehensive”. While Nintendo makes excellent games for kids, it’s not like the PC market doesn’t have anything for kids. Plus new consoles in a market could convince publishers to expand that way too.

  • Hmmm. Sounds kinda… like a mix of no true Scotsman and hipster. What something started as doesn’t always get to define how it always is, or we could make the same applications to a number of other things and call them “not real x.”

Some people argue any Pizza in America isn’t real pizza because it’s not made in the original style. You could even argue all Japanese sushi isn’t real sushi because the origin of sushi was a method for preserving fish by packing it with salted rice for fermentation. That’s not the standard for sushi today, but sushi today is still sushi.

Likewise, perhaps you could argue contemporary goth vs original goth or classic goth or something, but it’s all still goth, since it grew out of goth and just adjusted. Don’t enforce your preference on people enjoying the aesthetic the way they like to.
