Compared to login or password reset, you rarely see the email validate before register flow, especially for mobile apps etc. That makes it pretty hard to make the case that this needs to be actioned from a security perspective when even the big companies are not following it either.

I was having a chat about this with a UX guy. His argument for using a similar flow was that the username/email will have to be validated at the point of registration anyway so you might as well make it easier for the user when the email is wrong. I couldn’t really refute this logic.
If you throttle both login and registration, then surely the risk is minimised while keeping the user happy?
Looks nice, especially the anchovy pizza! The salad does have a very American vibe to it - it is the lack of different veggies maybe.

PC Gaming@lemmy.ca•New York sues Valve for 'letting children and adults illegally gamble' with loot boxesEnglish
13·2 months agoBelieve it or not, Valve do actually make games too, and these games do contain lootboxes. From the article:
…attorney general’s office called out Counter-Strike 2, Team Fortress 2, and Dota 2 specifically
They have been burnt for this in some other countries in the past and so they have developed alternatives which are location specific. Not sure if New York would’ve been too specific a place for this to be enabled or if they just didn’t care enough here.
Valve do have a history of popularising shading monetisation techniques e.g. battle passes. They are better than a lot of the competition, but far from being the saint that a lot of gamers believe them to be.
Alternatively, ‘Shutdown’ (with a capital), when refering to the 2015 grime track by Skepta.

PC Gaming@lemmy.ca•Church kicks out priest and the staff of his gaming website quits after he imitates Elon Musk's Inauguration Day salute during an anti-abortion speechEnglish
5·1 year agoOver in the UK, this got picked up by the mainstream papers. Maybe he is more well known over here. He is the type to often gets headlines for his outrageous comments.
I got interested myself and did a quick search, but it doesn’t seem like Riot have live stats unfortunately. I would expect League of Legends to have more players, but I don’t think it would be that huge, especially considering how popular Dota is in non-western countries.
I also find it funny how if you search something like “dota vs lol player count”, most of the spammy sites just compare the number you gave or even worse comparing Dota’s 1m peak concurrent per month vs League’s 150m total a month.
There also seems to be a disparity in the number of accounts that most players have per game (smurfs) making this probably not worth the time to research!
Is that daily player count concurrent or total for the day? If it is the first, I don’t think these figures are comparable.

Firefox@lemmy.ml•Firefox now supports clean URLs with the new "Copy link without site tracking" option
5·2 years agoIf you wanted to do this and make it default, I believe you should be able to do so using userChrome.css. You won’t be able to change the text, but you can remove the old menu item.

Just to clarify, would you mean to have the email/validate stage as part of the flow to access the app, or let them continue with just the email with a limited functionality?
