  • Same for Google search and their AI scanning every file that gets uploaded. Their AI, even with a 1% error rate means like millions of incorrect query responses daily or probably less than daily. Same goes for false positives from scanning people family photos or data. Hundreds or thousands of false positives each week in that case. I don’t quite get why people still use Google services, but that’s another topic. I dislike Google as much as Flock or any corporate run tech that spies on citizens for government agencies. It should be that they are hesitant to turn over information rather than proactively turning over information. Break up Google and shutter Flock.

  • Finally a sane comment with a reasonable argument and sources. I think people forget how slippery of a slope it is. There was another comment about where do we draw the line on works of art from over 100 years ago, should they all be destroyed to save children just because the current mindset of the day is different. It’s like destroying old statues from the American Civil War because they don’t align with today’s ideology. I could go on. That doesn’t even touch the fact that many of the people probably have old family photos that would meet the definition of CSAM. For example Google closed a persons account and reported him due to a twenty or thirty year old photo of his grandmother bathing him when he was a newborn. Meta also closed an account and reported a person for posting that famous photo of an unclothed girl running towards the camera that was shot during the Vietnam War. Just going to reiterate that it is still currently a messy situation that needs to be reevaluated. Over reporting makes it harder to find children in need and real bad actors. I blame the NCMEC for this, they have long since failed their mission to protect children.

  • That makes sense for a human reviewer of a photo or drawing, but when say Google or Meta have AI review photos or drawings, they caste a wider net. So all the examples above and what you gave would fall under the CSAM definition by their AI. Even that photo of the girl running from the Vietnam War was considered CSAM by Meta. Same has happened for family photos over the years as well as cartoons. In my opinion, it sounds good to do that on paper, but the reality is that calling everything like that as abusive makes it harder to find real victims and bad actors. The NCMEC is the clearing house for that, but they have been failing their objectives for years. Just my two cents.

  • Very much this. The level of trust that these companies have in their models was shocking to me before I noticed just how much trust the general population puts into these things. I think that these companies, such as Google and OpenAI need to be held accountable when things go wrong. It should not alway be on the end user. They need to own up to their mistakes. AI needs to be regulated. We also need data privacy and data protection laws. It is insane that am AI can lock you out of all of you data without any human intervention. I know people will say that you should have back ups and I agree, but I that Trina a blind eye to the bigger problem of how much power has been given to these companies. I am particularly not a fan of Google and hope they get broken up, but that is another somewhat unrelated topic.

  • I don’t agree with that poster, but I think far too many people think Google is the only option that exists for many things and would defend Google above all else. Corporate manipulation has put this feel good idea in people’s heads. But the reality is Google doesn’t care about the users, only advertisers. Google is a cancer. We need to break that company up and regulate AI. Also, we need data privacy and data protection laws. Right now Google can delete you account and all data you have stored with them overnight with no warning and can prevent you from downloading your own data, which for some people could be decades of memories and lock you out of contact with others.
